Historia
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Meanders and Sounds Almost Made-Up on the Spot
Revisado: 07-09-21
Pressfield quickly jumps from topic to topic, meandering way too much in the process. Worse yet, he blames all the problems of man on something he calls "Resistance." Now to him, this Resistance goes beyond just an abstract idea or an analogy. No, he almost makes Resistance into a literal, spiritual being on par with "the Force" from Star Wars. After a while, you get the feeling that Pressfield just kind of made up incoherent, quasi-spiritual garbage as he went along.
I downloaded this book on the recommendation of Joe Rogan on his podcast. Ugh. This book is a piece of tripe. If you're looking for a motivational book or something that deals with focusing and beating procrastination, I'm sure there are 1,000 other options available to you.

There's not much that you would get out of this book, especially if you've already done a bit of research or read a few blog posts on self-promotion. Plus, now that it's 2021, a lot of the info in this is already outdated.

Good, But Read Review for Additional Issues
Revisado: 05-02-17
What did you love best about NIV Audio Bible (Dramatized)?
It's easy to listen to. The NIV is, in my opinion, the best Bible translation for a compromise between word-for-word accuracy and readability. Hearing it read lot loud is a joy.
What does uncredited bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Most of the vocalizations are great, as were the light touches of music and sound effects (these were never overdone). The guy who did King David's part sounds EXACTLY like Mark Hamill (I did a quick search for Hamill's voice-over work, but no results ever came up for doing something like this). I did not care for was the man who narrated Paul the Apostle's voice. He sounds snotty, negative and snarky in the book of Acts and in the Epistles.
The Book of Revelation was the dramatic capper, and through multiple sound effects and voice doubling, they were able to portray the right amounts of heaviness that this book needed.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Ha! No. Since it's 75 hours long, give yourself a month or two to finish this. ;-)
Any additional comments?
AHHHH...and here's the main gripe I had, so read carefully...
Definitely download the corresponding PDF with the part/chapter divisions so that you could navigate this massive audiobook. It helps a LOT. But...
There's still a problem with the titles on the Audible phone app, because you can't see what Part # each one is, and you NEED to be able to tell apart all of the 27 different ones. On my Android app, it's a pain to find that it looks like this:
"NIV Audio Bible (Dramatized) (Unabridge..." and then the rest of the title gets cut off! I assume the "Part 1", "Part 12", etc. is right after this, but annoyingly gets truncated.
This presents a problem if, for instance, if you wish to listen to something like the Gospel of Matthew. According to the PDF guide, Matthew is in Part 20, so you would have to open up the NIV Bible on your device, scroll down and manually count out 20 entries and hope you didn't over-count/under-count. If you accidentally tapped on the part before or after the one you wish to listen to,. you have to go back, open up the NIV Bible again (it collapses by default), it starts at the top again and you manually have count to part 20 again.

Anyone can see it: We're captivated by the idea of eternity. No generation or culture can resist its draw. And some part of you already knows this, doesn't it? It's the reason you're thinking about buying this book. God created us with eternity in our hearts because this life is merely a glimpse of what's to come. But what do we know about eternity? Is there more to it than pitchforks and harps? And if so, is any of it relevant to the life we're living now?

Any additional comments?
Driven By Eternity is not for the spiritually squeamish. Yet it contains a message that has eternal consequences for everyone.
Too many people think it's okay to recite the "Sinner's Prayer," ask Jesus to come into their hearts, and then go back to living their old lives without even think about developing a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Yes, it is faith that saves us, but as James chapter 2 says, "faith without works is dead." Driven By Eternity urges you to start LIVING for Christ, and not just being complacent and living a lukewarm (or even cold) life here on earth.
And Christians are so focused on earthly matters that they often forget about the eternal treasures we lay up in Heaven. Driven By Eternity presents a clear, Biblical case for entering a deep relationship with God, following His will for our lives, and setti g our sites instead on eternity.
Another HUGE bonus to this audiobook is insertion of the 2+ hour-long drama "Affabel: Window of Eternity," written by John Bevere. This is a professionally-recorded audio "movie" that is as good as any Hollywood film you've ever seen or will ever see. "Affabel: Window of Eternity" is a parable of five young people who live their lives in an "earthly" kingdom of Endel, and then are whisked away to the "heavenly" kingdom of Affabel where they stand in front of the Judgment Seat of the King (voiced by John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in Lord of the Rings and Salah in the Indiana Jones movies). This, of course, represents Christians standing in front of the Judgment Seat of our Lord and King Jesus Christ. Just this audio drama alone is life-changing, and is worth the price of this book!
If you're looking for a light, breezy read constantly patting you on the back and telling you what a great person you are in God's eyes (like a Joel Osteen book), this ain't it. Driven By Eternity is a jarring, compelling, challenging book. It is powerful and life-changing. Download this commit to listening to it, and you'll never be the same again.

Many Christians today feel overwhelmed as they try to live faithfully in a culture that seems increasingly hostile to their beliefs. Politics, marriage, sexuality, religious freedom - with an ever-growing list of contentious issues, believers find it harder than ever to hold on to their convictions while treating their friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even family members who disagree with respect and compassion.

Good ideas, but nearing liberal theology
Revisado: 10-07-16
The main thrust of this book is to love one another, which all of us Christians are guilty of not doing enough of. But at times this book treads much too close on the slippery slope of liberal theology, especially when it comes to racism and homosexuality. This books' authors are WAY too lenient towards the act and the movivations behind homosexuality, to the point where they encourage Christian bakers to make cakes for gay couples just for the sake of making friends. Jesus wants us to love everyone (even gays), but not at the expense of advocating sin! Christ said, "go and sin no more," not, "congrats on your gay marriage! Please, why don't you be my friend?" Let the listener beware.

Short Little Book, But Packs a HUGE Punch!
Revisado: 10-05-16
There is more great info and more of God's truth than most other Christian books. This tells you how to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit in a fast-paced but easy-to-understand manner, and it accomplishes this task in a little over one hour's time, while other audio books fail to do it in six or eight hours. A must-read for all Christians.

Historia
Legendary magician Penn Jillette was approaching his 60th birthday. Topping 330 pounds and saddled with a systolic blood pressure reading over 200, he knew he was at a dangerous crossroads: If he wanted to see his small children grow up, he needed to change. And then came Crazy Ray. A former NASA scientist and an unconventional, passionate innovator, Ray Cronise saved Jillette's life with his wild "potato diet". Outspoken, frank, and bitingly clever, Presto is an incisive, rollicking listen.

Stream of consciousness memoirs with diet info.
Revisado: 09-15-16
Was Presto! worth the listening time?
Maybe. If you're a Penn Jillette fan, you'll probably enjoy this.
Any additional comments?
I've digested a lot of Penn Jillette material (and Penn & Teller entertainment in general) over the years, and I'm a fan of some of it. I'm a Christian, but I enjoy Penn's style. Even though he's ridiculously vulgar and obscene, he's "real" and doesn't hold back, and is very likable as a persona.
If you like Penn, if you want to hear some stories and name-dropping, and you possibly want to be inspired to lose weight yourself, then give this book a try. Outside of that, it's a bit "stream of consciousness" and all over the place. Many of the anecdotes have little to do with the subject matter. Overall, the book could have been tighter-focused. But then again, how could you edit Penn? That would seem to go against his very way of doing things. Plus, it's not really a strict diet book. It's more like several episodes of his podcast crammed together, with a central theme of tales about how Penn stuck to the highly unorthodox diet created by Ray "CrayRay" Cronise.

Great content, but bad delivery
Revisado: 06-23-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Lobsters Scream When You Boil Them to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but I imagine it would be a lot more enjoyable.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John McLain?
Anyone else. Well, except for Gilbert Gottfied, Hillary Clinton or Fran Drescher.
Any additional comments?
Narrator John McLain's delivery is slow, low, gravely, and full of an unnecessary snarky tone when he speaks. So weird and distracting sounding. And...he has an annoying tendency to go down in his voice during most of the phrasing and at the end the sentences he speaks. Reading a fun cooking & science book calls for a clear, authoritative, and ultimately fun voice. McLain does not fit at all on here.
I looked elsewhere on Audible for McLain's other books, and WOW! He's narrated dozens of others. He may be a good fit for some other styles, but definitely not this.
NOTE: Listening to this book at a faster speed (1.25x to 1.5x) does help a bit.

James Gandolfini: The Real Life of the Man Who Made Tony Soprano is the first biography of the actor, who died in June 2013 at age 51, widely recognized as one of the best - and most defining - actors of his generation. The audiobook, as performed by Gandolfini's Sopranos co-star John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco), is informed by fresh interviews with Sopranos actors, HBO executives, the star’s acting teachers and coaches, his childhood friends, buddies from his days as a nightclub bouncer, and Hollywood figures including the directors of his posthumously released films.

A Bit Flat and Empty
Revisado: 12-15-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book had decent insight on the life and times of mega-talented Sopranos actor James Gandolfini. There are two main problems. One, John Ventimiglia (who played Artie Bucco on The Sopranos) comes across as extremely flat, dry, and snooze-inducing. He may be a good character and an insider on James' life, but as a voice-over actor or audiobook narrator he lacks the pizzazz to keep your interest. Two, the material provided by author Dan Bischoff kind of jumps around and does not follow a deeply-dive, highly-researched tact. Instead, you get a few good nuggets here and there but are wanting more.
