Historia
Earth failed. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carried its precious human cargo to a potential new paradise. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost. Then strangers appear. They possess unparalleled knowledge and thrilling technology–and they've arrived from another world to help humanity’s colonies. But not all is as it seems, and the price of the strangers' help may be the colony itself.

Good Story, Misuse of Established Scientific Terms
Revisado: 05-23-23
Very enjoyable, except for the glaring (and frankly annoying) confusion of two relatively simple scientific terms, which admittedly are frequently misused in the science fiction genre.
Sentience is defined he experience of sensations and/or feelings. Examples of this are sensations of pleasure.
Any creature that has an integrative nervous system (a brain) is therefore sentient by definition.
Instead, Tchaikovsky should be using the term "sapient" to describe the concept he's referring to constantly throughout this book.
Sapience is defined as intelligence or the ability to think.
Most mammals, as well as some fish and birds, seem to be able to think at least as well as small human children and are probably sapient unless you believe your three year old is not. Or if alternatively, you agree with the conclusions this book draws from its, in my opinion, two most entertaining characters!
(To my understanding, Tchaikovsky has been corrected on his misuse of the term "sentience" on a podcast episode shortly before this book was printed. I hope he applies that knowledge in his future endeavors.)
Ignoring the misuse of this term, the story and philosophical discussion are both intriguing and live up to what I've come to expect from the "Children of Time" series.

Historia
One moment a man sits on a suburban hill, gazing curiously at the stars. The next, he is whirling through the firmament, and perhaps the most remarkable of all science fiction journeys has begun. Even Stapledon's other great work, 'Last and First Men' pales in ambition next to 'Star Maker' which presents nothing less than an entire imagined history of life in the universe, encompassing billions of years.

A Spiritual Journey
Revisado: 11-07-22
Starmaker affords the reader one possible view of the grandeur of reality, which is beautiful in its ultimate simplicity, even if the human brain will never be able comprehend the finer details.

Great!

Very good!
I'm often frustrated by the misuse of scientific terms like "sentience" in science fiction, but not a real criticism to the story.

Better than the movie!

Fantastic reading. the movie was a great spectacle, but the book expands on the concepts and deeper lore of the Monsterverse. I hope to see future novelizations of the Monsterverse content, and would love to hear recordings of older Godzilla novelizations, as well.

Fascinating
Revisado: 01-27-21
This is one of the most fascinating science fiction audiodramas I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The setting is close enough to home that it should be able to resonate with any listener.
This journey, to me, was as good as DC's Sandman.

Beautiful
Revisado: 05-22-20
This audiobook is brilliantly performed, and adds an extra layer to the intimacy that the book itself provides. I've been a fan of Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson's work for some time now, and its always nostalgic to listen to his audiobook renditions, the other performers did an excellent job, as well.
