Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Amazing Read!
Revisado: 03-29-25
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. The Will of the Many is smart, intense, and full of layers. The protagonist, Vis, is one of those characters who seems to be good at everything—but for once, it makes sense. His backstory gives so much depth to his abilities that I was fully on board with it.
The magic system is simple yet really cool, and while the worldbuilding was surprisingly sparse, it never felt confusing. I kept wondering—is this alternate history? A future society that’s gone back to Roman roots? A magical second world entirely? The book never spells it out, and somehow, that worked.
It’s Hunger Games-esque with an academy setting, deadly competitions, children pitted against each other, and heavy themes of government control and the manipulation of the weak by the powerful. There’s also a bit of romance, plenty of conspiracy, and some very intense gladiator-style violence. No language or explicit scenes, just brutal moments that hit hard.
Every character felt complex, the plot had multiple threads weaving together seamlessly, and there were so many twists and turns I never saw coming. The audiobook was fantastic—great narration that brought the whole thing to life.
Highly recommend to fans of political intrigue, determined characters, and high-stakes fantasy with a Roman flair. I’ll definitely be pushing this one on all my bookish friends!

I have two boys, one a freshman in high school and one just starting middle school. This book had them hooked from start to finish. It’s perfect for kids who enjoyed Percy Jackson, Wings of Fire, and Fablehaven.

Historia
Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

A backwoods urban fantasy
Revisado: 05-05-21
This audiobook was so much fun! It’s such a fun mix of old fables and American folklore. It’s a cool new perspective of witches that I haven’t seen very often. Instead of having powers inside that they can hurl at each other, it’s all about talismans, protective wards, and monsters. I really enjoyed it.
