Needs to be dual narration
Revisado: 08-15-24
I can't tell if the girl MC is annoying, whiny, and immature or if it's the male narrator doing her voice that way. Whenever he is doing the female part, it is cringey. The story is somewhat entertaining but falls short when the MC apologizes for everything & feels guilty about things she shouldn't. I'd only recommend this for a light read. The drama is predictable, the spice is quite low, & overall the characters arent the kind that stick with you.

Annoying Lighthearted
Revisado: 03-27-24
I tried to love this book several times and I just can't. It's written very light heartedly and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be humorous but if so, it falls very flat. The story could've been really great if it had more of a punch. I think my first issue comes from the narrator. She has a nice voice but it does sound a bit harsh sometimes and my goodness does she get loud during parts. I really disliked how she voiced Jax. That leads me to my other issue. I can't be sure if it's the narration or just how the author wrote Jax but his tone is very annoying. If he's supposed sound light hearted with zero charm or sex appeal, they nailed that. I get that he's acting nonchalant and pretending not to care about things but the way this reads, he overdoes the nonchalance to the point it feels like he wants us to beg him to tell us how he really feels. I couldn't finish the book after several attempts which was disappointing because I wanted a new series to love.

Historia
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.

Hunger Games Dupe
Revisado: 02-13-24
I cannot believe I didn't see one review saying how this is nearly a ripoff of hunger games. I was so impressed by the beginning and the explanation between the gifted and non gifted & hearing about this new world. I was very interested in this story until it turned into Hunger Games. while it's not bad, I had the hardest time staying interested after it took this overly predictable turn. I'm extremely disappointed with this. Feels like a complete waste of a credit. The narrators were great.

Decent book but I found it hard to finish
Revisado: 11-13-23
While I did enjoy the novel, it got pretty difficult to finish because I was over the cloak and dagger writing and wished it would get on with it at times. I love a good mystery but the repetitive statements about "the fire" started to get on my nerves. The narrators were good all except whoever voiced Emery. Her chapters always felt like they were lagging. I had to speed her parts up to 1.5 just to get through it. I was a little disappointed towards the end and after all the buildup to find out what really happened, it wasn't worth the very low grade suspense. If you're looking for something light to read, this book is great.

Tapping out after Chapter 8
Revisado: 10-05-23
I tried really hard with this one. it has elements that are right up my alley but this failed hard for me. I let it play every night before bed and kept falling asleep and waking up at what seemed like the same spot I fell asleep at. The book played til around chapter 13 or something but I kept going back to make sure I got the whole story. By Chapter 8, I was done. "why do I keep saying these things" "I hate that I agree with him" "my body reacts to him and idk why"....3 things I kept hearing from this book and honestly, it makes no sense. This man cornered you, kidnapped you, and held you hostage for his own gains and we're not even in chapter 5 but your body is feeling things? you miss him? Absolutely not. The narrator was decent but this story did not hold my attention at all.

Disappointed with this follow up.
Revisado: 08-19-23
I really enjoyed book one and I just knew this 2nd novel was going to be epic....it wasn't. For me, it seemed like the main character we watched grow into this strong, do anything for family/whatever is right person lost her way in the follow up. Her indecisiveness confused and annoyed me at times. New characters are introduced which was ok but some honestly weren't needed. And the ending came so fast and quick that it left me unsatisfied. I was surprised and enjoyed the new Saren perspective & felt that could've been explored a bit more but ultimately this book left me disappointed.

To Nor's dismay, her future husband, Prince Ceren, is as forbidding and cold as his home - a castle carved into a mountain and devoid of sunlight.

Easy to get into!
Revisado: 08-15-23
After reading this a second time, I wanted to leave a review saying how great this book really is. This is a beautifully written story that isn't overcomplicated which was a relief for me. I love stepping into new worlds with fantasy novels but sometimes, its too much to comprehend so I was very happy this author kept it simple yet rich. This book makes me wish I had a sister instead of a brother 😂. Main characters are developed well and I loved everyone I was supposed to love and hated the ones I was supposed to hate. The narration was top notch and I look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend this to those who liked Ash Princess or And I Darken. This is better than the former and less heavy than the latter. Perfect in between read. And if you're a fan of the sisterly love in Hunger Games, this beats that by a mile imo. Definitely worth a try!

When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn't come as a surprise - or happen in front of 45,000 people. When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn't the hard part - they've only been dating for five months, and he can't even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans....

Don't recommend, returned after only 6 chapters
Revisado: 08-05-23
I should have stuck with my gut on this one and ignored the 15th recommendation for this book because this was so unenjoyable.. The parts that are supposed to be funny just aren't. It lands flat every time. The female lead character is annoying and I really wanted to love her. This isn't written particularly well and I loathe repetitive thoughts and statements within the same paragraph. And I mean saying the exact same thing within minutes. Waste of a credit.

When I slipped out of his bed three months ago, I never expected to see him again. My future is set. I’m going to be a Rogues field agent. And field agents don’t date. Not to mention it’s forbidden to date each other.

HUGE Disappointment
Revisado: 06-30-23
I am a big fan of Nana Malone and book 1 was soo good that I was ecstatic to continue the series that I even paid money for the book since I was out of credits. But this book let me down in a big way. The whole "spy rogue" thing is almost...laughable?? I'm not sure what the correct word is but if I had to hear "we catch the bad guys" one more time, I was gonna scream. For me, that part wasn't written well. No suspense or real danger imo. But I could have forgiven that if the romance was better. Unfortunately it wasn't. The repetitiveness irked me. "It's my fault, no it's my fault, no it's MY fault" type of arguments seem juvenile and just annoying to read. That happens multiple times in this book (circular repetitive arguments) and I had a hard time finishing because of it. Even the characters inner monologues are repeated within minutes. And the brother conflict was also hard to swallow. Just didn't make sense after awhile. Book 1 got me all excited I found a new series to read but I couldn't even finish this book. Very disappointed and I feel I wasted my money on this one.

Could've been a good story but it fell flat
Revisado: 04-15-23
This was not a well written book. I'm open to a lot of tropes if written well and this one fell short. Instant connection is fine but the 2 main characters have 0 chemistry in my opinion so that always felt off. I decided to keep listening in hopes the mystery of the novel would be interesting but I couldn't make it to the end. If I had to hear the word "outsider" one more time, I was going to scream. And how does a no nonsense power wielding police chief end up whining to herself about the idea of another woman? Had the characters been built up a bit more, maybe that wouldn't have seemed so bazaar but with how this is written, it just made no sense. I don't recommend unless you want to read about how 2 rigid and stern people quickly change their minds about what they want from each other. Sad I never found out what happened with the crime but I couldn't keep listening
