Historia
Eleven-year-old Amrie St. Pierre is catching tadpoles with her friend Finn O'Reilly when the Federal fleet first steams up the Mississippi River in the spring of 1862. With the surrender of New Orleans, Amrie's sleepy little village of St. Francisville - strategically located between the last river outposts of Vicksburg and Port Hudson - is now frighteningly vulnerable. As the roar of canons inches ever closer and food, shoes, and life-giving medicines become increasingly scarce, Amrie is forced to grow up fast.

A southern female experience of the civil war
Revisado: 09-07-21
This story and the narration had me experiencing the gamut of human emotions. War is a terrible thing for any civilian on any side but especially for the women, children and elderly.

Historia
She was never supposed to walk into my club. But she did. I shouldn’t have looked twice at her. But I did. The criminal underworld is no place for a girl like her. One night with Katerina isn’t enough, but men like me can’t afford to be weak. So, I tell her to leave me behind. She does, but not before she sees something she shouldn’t. When she goes into hiding, it’s my duty to hunt her down. I have a job to do, and she needs to disappear for good. But four years later, Kat isn’t alone anymore. And the little boy right beside her looks just like me.

Left me eager for every chapter
Revisado: 04-20-21
I enjoyed the plot and the characters. The narration was great as it left me deep into my visualization of the story. The only part of this book that left me unhappy was when it ended abruptly leaving me wondering what happened next. That was quickly resolved when I realized it was continued in another book. So I understood after the fact but for a split second I was left thinking "No! I need to know what happens!"

I’ve been in hiding for four years. On the run from the man in whose bed I once slept. I saw something I shouldn’t have seen. Took something I shouldn’t have taken. And he’s just found me. But it’s not just my safety I have to worry about. I have a little boy. His little boy. The secret baby of a Russian mobster.

Loved everything!
Revisado: 04-20-21
The story had me rooting for the main characters. The narration was great leaving me immersed in the story instead of focusing on the narrators. The resolution to the plot was satisfying.

Excellent narrator. I would enjoy any book brought to life by her narration.
Riveting storyline. It was like getting three mysteries in one.

Great Storyline

I loved it. I was captivated like a nosy eavesdropper. The relationships between the characters, especially the mother and daughter, were very relatable.
