Historia
In The Life & Times of Beethoven, celebrated composer and music historian Professor Robert Greenberg of San Francisco Performances gives you a unique perspective on a musical genius the likes of which the world had never seen before - or since. Blending biography, history, and music appreciation, these 10 lectures portray Beethoven’s extraordinary (and still modern-sounding) music as a direct outgrowth of his life, environment, and interior emotional landscape.

Beethoven’s story
Revisado: 01-01-25
Bob Greenberg has a snarky style that some love and some hate. I’ve heard a few of his great courses and his style is wearing a bit thin for me. That said, he does tell a good story and goes into fascinating details about the man, warts and all.

Have you ever wondered if there is a method to learn Python in less than a week? Most probably yes, but...there is a “secret” formula to get it done. That’s right, Python is friendly language, but you need to learn it the right way. Especially if you want to start learning dozens of different methods to launch your career as a Python programmer. Correct, you can’t afford to wait months, or even years to learn a new language. However, that’s not a big issue anymore, we’ve got you covered on this.

Ugh. You can’t read code out loud, especially python.
Revisado: 08-15-21
I don’t know how an audiobook on python or any coding language could ever work, but this one sure doesn’t. There are some reasonable audiobooks on statistical methods and algorithms, but they rely on an accompanying PDFs and don’t try to read code aloud. If you want to learn python, take a course, get some books or tutorials and get coding. There’s really no shortcut.

Historia
For most of the last 2,000 years, questions about the figure of Jesus have begun with the Gospels, but the Gospels themselves raise puzzling questions about both Jesus and the religious movement within which these narratives were produced. Is it possible to shape a single picture from the various accounts of his life given us by these Gospels?

Thorough, well researched and, to me, very enlightening
Revisado: 05-30-21
I very much enjoyed these lectures and found them to be well worth the effort they will demand of you. Dr. Johnson thoroughly discussed the back history of ancient predecessors to the gospels, the canonical gospels we all know, and then the apocryphal and gnostic gospels we may not know as well. His well-balanced and thorough presentation may frustrate some, but was very enlightening for me with my traditional (and more narrow than I realized) Catholic school education. Stick with it past the first 3 introductory lectures which can be a bit dry. It picks up after that. The last 2 lectures are worth the journey!

Historia
Leonardo da Vinci created the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and engineering. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry.

Too visual for an audiobook
Revisado: 08-05-19
I love Isaacson biographies. However, this one is much too visual to work as an audiobook. Long descriptions of brushwork and details in his paintings are too tedious and frustrating for listening.

Stravinsky composed what is arguably one of the two most important musical compositions of the twentieth century, The Rite of Spring. He forged a new "musical language" to portray the sense of the ballet's primitive and earthy theme. More than a dozen excerpts of Stravinsky's works are examined.

Good overview of I've if the great 20th composers
Revisado: 11-24-18
Greenberg, as ever is entertaining, knowledgeable and has compelling anecdotes to help bring to life composers who we only have known from their music.
He does a great job of providing the historical context behind how Stravinsky started why his style changed so abruptly in several phases. A great series.
