Twisty, Unpredictable, and Unputdownable!

I dare you to guess what happens in the final chapter of "The Final Wife".

Yes, this twisty "who dunnit" murder mystery was pacey, character-driven, unputdownable, and unpredictable.

This Audible Plus freebie was expertly narrated by Rebecca Gethings, Victoria Blunt, Emily Joyce, Eleanor Bennett, and Nigel Pilkington.

Very, very, very S-L-O-W, repetitve, and eye-rolling.

Although Tamsin Kennard did a superb job with the narration, with two POVs and different timelines, the book needed a male narrator for the male POV.

I could not listen to this book.

Listening to nonstop mental abuse of a female spouse is troubling and not enjoyable.

Publisher's blurb should have stated this.

Narration was 10-star.

Did the publisher and editor read this book????

CHECK THE COVER:
This book is NOT about a missing baby.

Instead, this is a "Who murdered my sister?" book.

It's also a book about a crazed first-time mother allegedly suffering from post-partum depression and memory lapses.

The author's character development was flawed.
1) Characters spotlighted in the early portion of the book were not further developed in the latter portion. (Did the author forget about them?)
2) A random character was a pivotal character at the end of the book. (Huh?)

The book was also very, very long-winded.

This 8-hour audiobook easily could have been a 6-hour audiobook.

The narration by Tamsin Kennard was 10-star, as always.

Nobody bats 1000%

This is my first 2-star review for talented author AJ McDine.

Story was long, repetitous, unbelievable, and predictable. (Not a good combo!)

Narration was 10-star. Tamsin Kennard and George Weightman never disappoint.

If you are an antisemite, this book is for you.

This was not stated in the publisher's blurb.

Very disappointing.

I was not the "right" listener for this "Writer" book.

WHY?

This "blistering dark thriller" lacked the signature Diane Jeffrey thrills I was seeking.

The book's pacing was slow and the final twist was "been there, done that" predictable.

Diane Jeffrey is one of my go-to authors so perhaps my expectations were elevated.

This 11-hour audiobook easily could have been an 8-hour audiobook.

Although Olivia Mace's narration was superb, Matt Addis' narration was lackluster.

When Matt was narrating, I had to pinch myself to stay awake.

Nobody bats 1000%, and I will be eagerly awaiting Diane Jeffrey's future releases.

Characterizations were stellar, pacing was on-point, and twists were plentiful and jaw-dropping,

From start to finish, the book was unpredictable and unputdownable.

As always, James Lailey's narration was brilliant.

Although this book is the eighth book in Anna-Lou Weatherley's Detective Dan Riley's series, it is also a standalone read.

TWs: Prostitution, domestic abuse, child abuse, police corruption.

I usually stay far, far, away from books with these TWs but author Anna-Lou Weatherley skillfully handled these sensitive subjects with exceptional finesse and sensitivity.

I listened to all eight books in the Detective Dan Riley series, and this was one of my favorites.

One of my besties of 2025.

Daniel Hurst is a prolific writer.

Some of his books are much better than others.

This book was engaging, pacey, twisty, and unputdownable.

Some portions required a huge suspension of disbelief but this book is clearly labeled as fiction.....so the author is forgiven.

Both narrators gave superb performances.

I would have loved an additional male narrator for the small male POV portion at the end of the book.

I will listen to any book read by narrator Megan Tusing.

I would never have listened to this book had I known it was a "ghost story thriller".

The book's pacing was slow and the repetitious text was plentiful.

The narrators identifying themselves as "Brother" and "Sister" was annoying.

I easily guessed who killed the sister's brother.

The narration was superb.
