Narrator ruins one of my favorite books.
Revisado: 08-02-21
Some old man is narrating this, and as a result his voices for every female character is grating at best, and insulting at worst. His voice for Missandei, for example, is so offensive it feels racist even though everything in this book is made up. I feel dirty just listening to it. I wish there was another version available because this is so bad I almost didn't finish it. Unfortunately, I got the whole series at once so I'm stuck with them. Awful. Just awful. Who hired this guy?!?!

Historia
Tender at the Bone is the story of a life determined, enhanced, and defined in equal measure by unforgettable people, the love of tales well-told, and a passion for food. In other words, the stuff of the best literature. The journey begins with Reichl's mother, the notorious food-poisoner known forevermore as the Queen of Mold, and moves on to the fabled Mrs. Peavey, one-time Baltimore socialite millionairess, and, for a brief but poignant moment, retained as Reichl's maid.

chapters don't match up, sounds fake
Revisado: 10-04-20
The chapters don't match the book chapters, which makes this really difficult to use in combination with the physical copy for classes. Additionally, it sounds like it's being read by a robot. Do not recommend.
The story is fine.

Historia
Profoundly poetic yet gloriously accessible, this is the best way to experience a work that has remained a centerpiece of Western civilization for 2,000 years. Fitzgerald's rendering speaks directly to the modern listener, inviting us to share the excitement, adventure, and human tears as Aeneas, the warrior hero, escapes from the burning city of Troy, embarks on a long and perilous journey, and eventually, triumphantly establishes a new nation: Rome.

BEWARE: ABRIGDED VERSION
Revisado: 05-11-20
This is an absolutely terrible edition. It slaps Fitzgerald in the face by omitting a huge portion of the text, and misorganizes the chapters so the breaks don't make any sense at all. This is the worst audiobook I've ever purchased from audible, and I want a refund. Not telling people this is an abrodged version is a really poor business practice. DO NOT BUY THIS.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Too Many Competing Voices
Revisado: 09-16-19
The change between the monotone narrator, and the (sometimes overly dynamic) people reading the character voices is tortured. The constant changes in voice distract the brain from fully absorbing the story information being conveyed. I wish there were a better audiobook of this, read by only one (very good) actor. This is not very accessible. Would not recommend.

Historia
After he is found adrift in the Arctic by Captain Fredrick Walton, a gravely ill Victor Frankenstein recounts the story of his life up to his discovery. He tells how his obsession with science led to the creation of an abomination who, to his horror and shame, he abandoned. The creature's quest for both revenge and understanding from his creator leaves a violent trail of devastation in Victor’s life that affects all those he holds dear. Frankenstein is a powerful story of love and ambition, of friendship and morality, and of horror and violence.

Do not buy. Total ripoff!!!
Revisado: 02-15-19
This only has a couple poems, they're not in any order, and it doesn't even list or say the titles of any of them. Don't waste your money. Get the entire book recorded for free by a volunteer at librivox, instead. They have a lot of audio texts in the public domain. Whoever created this version for sale should be ashamed.

Historia
A group of adventurers searching for a cure for comatose children find themselves trapped in a sequence of virtual worlds, the only opponents of a conspiracy of the rich to live forever in a dream. Now, they are forced to make an uneasy alliance with their only surviving former enemy against his treacherous sidekick Johnny Wulgaru, a serial killer with a chance to play God forever. Few science fiction sagas have achieved the level of critical acclaim - and best-selling popularity - as Tad Williams's Otherland novels.

Puts RP1 To Shame
Revisado: 04-12-18
This is one of the best sci-fi series in recent memory. I read it a year or so after reading Ready Player One, and it makes that book look like nostalgic garbage in comparison. The Otherland series is hands-down one of the most well thought out, gripping, and relative book series of our time. I highly recommend it.
