Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

The problem of high standards
Revisado: 11-13-23
Everything else, Andy Weir has written has simply blown my socks off. This one was just “good”. It’s entertaining, provocative, and has a lot of the same science driven plot that Andy Weir’s other books have had, but it just leaves me wanting more. Dialogue is not his forte. Grand sweeping arcs of plot lines are. Jaw-dropping resilience in his characters, and really cool science characterize his best writing. This book seemed like more of an attempt at a mystery novel.

Historia
In 2011, veteran and journalist Elliott Woods embedded with the twelve Marines of Third Squad in one of the most violent parts of Afghanistan at the height of the war against the Taliban. Only eleven of the twelve would make it home. A decade later—with America’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan looming—Elliott goes on a cross-country road trip to track down the Third Squad survivors, to talk about the war and coming home, and to ask: What was it all for? And where do we go from here? Third Squad is a 12-part documentary podcast hosted by Woods and produced by Airloom Media. New ...

Great story of the true horrors

A must "Listen"
Revisado: 01-05-22
Third Squad is a created by a veteran, and experienced/talented journalist telling very important stories about war the way they should be told. Elliott Woods is a very skilled and insightful interviewer who connects with his subjects and feels his way through a story. This podcast is the kind you can't stop once you start until you have listened all the way through. It LETS you feel uncomfortable because the experiences of the subjects were so hard. It's what you get when a capable and engaged storyteller finds the right stories from veterans with a raw and unvarnished recall of their experiences.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Required reading

No as a scientist myself, I find some of the scientific aspects a little water down, I understand this. The message overall from this book is something that we cannot ignore. Pandemics always have been, and always will be a part of our history. A lack of political leadership and transparency can cost thousands of lives. Similarly, pandemics have no respect for international borders or politics, and scientists must be allowed to work together to anticipate, prepare for, and prevent the worst.

Great compilation
Revisado: 01-16-16
This book is really a compilation of multiple stories, Editorial's, interviews, and other essays written by Tyson. His passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the topic is infectious. It is inspiring, and thought-provoking.
The narration itself is robotic, and marred by frequent mispronunciations of mostly technical names. Xenon, Anton Von Leowenhoek, tertiary, Saturn V (pronounced by the narrator as 'Vee' instead of five) and so on, are just an example of some of the numerous mispronunciations you have to get past to truly enjoy this book.
