Historia
In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal. Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

great fun
Revisado: 07-21-07
I enjoyed this book immensely. The main characters were fun. The rhetoric reminded me of how some of my girlfriends and I talk. The story line was good albeit a bit predictable. Worth the time to listen.

Historia
In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence....

Revisado: 07-21-07
I usually like everything that Grisham does. But I think his 1st foray into the world of non-fiction was not good. This book read more like a newspaper article than a book...all dates and locations.

Historia
Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

outstanding
Revisado: 07-21-07
Mesmerizing. I couldn't stop listening. It was a wonderful listen but very disconcerting to know that these types of abuse toward women exist. You feel as those you know the characters because the author describes them so beautifully. Every injustice and every blow, I felt personally. First the Kite Runner and now this. Hosseini has captured lightning in a bottle twice now.

Historia
In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise.

Fair at best
Revisado: 07-21-07
The story was fair. The narration was poor. I thought the story had potential but was disappointed. Just when I thought the story was about to get really good, the author took a turn taking it to a very mundane place. I did listen to the entire book. I have great endurance.

Historia
Stone Barrington embarks on his most dangerous adventure yet when he takes on a job as a lawyer for a sleazy and clueless con man and ends up getting embroiled in the underworld of the New York mafia. It started out as just another late night at Elaine's, where Stone was eating a porterhouse steak and enjoying the company of his friends. But when Herbie Fisher, a notoriously not-so-sharp swindler, walked in, the pleasant atmosphere turned to ice.

Dreadful
Revisado: 07-21-07
I've never had to stop listening to a book until this. Even if I'm not totally engaged, I can usually find some redeeming qualities. This, however has none. I can't quite decide which was worse; the writing or the narration. Do yourself a favor and save your time and money.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

I enjoyed it!
Revisado: 08-12-06
I enjoyed this book very much. Smithson is a hapless character who while not very bright, has some endearing characteristics. The author does an excellent job of characterization and you can't help but empathize with Smithy and his family as they watch their hopes for Bethany fade.
