Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Good read and compelling story
Revisado: 02-06-23
Good story and I appreciated the author’s read, although I slowed it to x9 bc I felt like she was reading too fast. She read different voices very well. I didn’t know her show - I never watched it. But the title caught my eye and I kept hearing in reading circles about her story so I gave it a try. There was a point in the story where I was a little bored but it was minor. I had to feel for what she went through which was a lot. Would have appreciated more background on her mother especially how a particular issue came up. I wish her well on her recovery. Thank you for sharing - I know it wasn’t easy.

Historia
At 21, Kathy Valentine was at the Whisky in Los Angeles when she met a guitarist from a fledgling band called the Go-Go's - and the band needed a bassist. The Go-Go's became the first multi-platinum-selling, all-female band to play instruments themselves, write their own songs, and have a number one album. But for Valentine, the band's success was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream - but it's only part of her story. All I Ever Wanted traces the path that took her from her childhood in Texas - where she all but raised herself - to the height of rock n' roll stardom.

Well-written book
Revisado: 01-04-22
Really enjoyed Kathy’s story and felt her struggles within her life and as a musician. She provides insights into how music shaped her life, her history with other musicians and her time as a Go-Go. In between chapters, she sings some of the book before it is read to us. Really neat! Would have liked to hear more of her life as it is now, as she only briefly mentions it. Great read!

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 01-04-22
I loved this book. It is not told in chronological order, but rather snippets here and there of his life and experiences. I saw it as a slice of music history, and loved his self-effacing comments. There’s also music throughout the book, which was a nice touch. If you like music and hearing how things went down, then this is for you.
