I listened to the book several times and read it as well. It was, as is all Neil Gaiman, absolutely terrific. I was stunned at his ability to join his book to the way we are living today. The series made from this book is, in my uneducated and humble opinion TRASH. It plays to the carnal and sensational masking the wisdom of the book.
If you have watched the series and not read the book you might be disappointed. The book speaks to the human need for spiritual answers. It cautions us to be wary of the places we put our trust. Yes, George Guidall is a narrator par excellence.

What made the experience of listening to Sunny's Nights the most enjoyable?

I am 74 so much of this story happened in my years. I was raised in an Italian town not NYC but the characters were so familiar. Tim Sultan was an artist painting in words. None of the characters were role models but they surely lived life. I was sorry to see it end, both the book itself and the time of the real Sunny's.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Perhaps someone who had no understanding of the Druids A starting point?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Not sure if it was the narrator or, the engineering. Maybe my Kindle is too old for this book. His voice was so deeply bass I could not fully understand it.

Any additional comments?

This would be one of the last books I would read on the subject. Somewhat dated information.

What did you love best about The Lake House?

I truly could not figure out the plot until the very end. The characters were believable and the fact that were flawed made them all the more likable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alice the author. She was just what I would a Ms. Marple would be in real life.

What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her performance was measured and her voice an easy one hear.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

things are not always as they seem

Any additional comments?

Could not stop listening on one hand and made myself pace out because I did not want to stop.

What made the experience of listening to Robert B. Parker's The Devil Wins the most enjoyable?

Kept my interest

Who was your favorite character and why?

Always Jesse, Suit and Molly

What about James Naughton’s performance did you like?

His voice was predictable and the few changes not annoying

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither, just enjoyed

Any additional comments?

One of the things we all like about Robert Parker and his follow up writers is the interesting predictability. We know the bad guys will get caught and that between the beginning and end we will not know for sure how. We miss Robert B. Parker like crazy but thanks for keeping him alive. Love Jesse Stone and his employees/town characters in Paradise.. Oh, and then there is Dicks and Healey. Good men and women all.

What did you love best about Kaiju Rising: Age of Monsters?

Most of the stories were excellent. I liked that they were short.

Which scene was your favorite?

Many were compelling. There were so many times I would yell.. "Don't do that!" as a character would take an action so obviously foolish. It took me back to the horror films where the main characters decided to explore the empty house or descend to the basement as eerie music played in the background.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I finished the book which says a lot. I often do not if annoyed or bored by a character.

Any additional comments?

This was a fun book. Godzilla and the Blob and all of those characters that make us look over our shoulder. Do not read if you cannot expand your mind into wild adventure. Not for the serious.

What did you love best about The Buried Giant?

The narrator was spot on. His voice kept me glued to the book. The language was exceptional. Mr. Ishiguro is a marvelous word smith. The story was a bit confusing but perhaps that was meant to be.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I think, I would have shortened it a bit. The use of the children and poisoned goat was not necessary but, perhaps I just did not get it.

Which character – as performed by David Horovitch – was your favorite?

The old couple was what we wish our relationships to be, constant and caring. The two warriors were true to their calling. The son, wanting to save his mother was classic.

If you could rename The Buried Giant, what would you call it?

Misdirection. The fog of memory loss did not in the end, stop the conflict between people. I felt the frustration all peace loving folk do, when their efforts are futile.

Any additional comments?

His use of myths was helpful. One knew immediately that the boatman was the means of release. At the end I was not sure why the old couple could not cross together. Made no sense except that yes, all death is personal.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Depends. Not for someone who likes meat. More of a dessert novel.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jojo Moyes? Why or why not?

Yes, as it was not a terrible book, just not for me at this time.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

I liked the mother, as she was obviously overwhelmed with her son's physical and mental handicaps. She was so strong and capable at work but once she entered home, she was a mom.

Do you think Me Before You needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I was not impressed with the main characters enough to want to read of their future life together or not. The lives of the physically damaged veterans who rise above all of their challenges make the protagonist of this book seem very self centered. I can only hope somewhere he finds the courage to dig in and contribute instead of whine.

Any additional comments?

In the beginning of the story Lou drove me a tad crazy by being so young and somewhat without common sense. As the book moved on I applauded her desire to make a difference. Actually did not listen to the whole book. I skipped ahead to hear the conclusion.

Where does The Beautiful American rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is not the best of books but a really good book. That is not damning with faint praise by any means. Jeanne Mackin wrote a book that held my interest, kept me coming back to my Kindle for a listen and gave yet another view of the WW2 war years.

What did you like best about this story?

It was written by a woman who knows the woman's point of view. Not all do. She has a mature understanding of what it is like to suffer lost love and the deep attachment to a child. She understands the young heart that wants to live outside the box.

Have you listened to any of Kate Reading’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I am certain that she read for the Wheel of Time series. She is a fine actor.

If you could take any character from The Beautiful American out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I cannot remember the name of the Russian immigrant with whom Nora lived for a time in southern France. She is the one I would most like to know. She had courage and I am certain a tremendous story to tell on her own. (Hint to author)

Any additional comments?

Just appreciation for a great listen and hope for more.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Goldfinch to be better than the print version?

Yes and no. Narration was terrific, spot on. But, after a while Theo's whining was amplified by the good narration.

Would you recommend The Goldfinch to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend but only to someone looking for a good read. Not, for the faint hearted. looking for a beach book.

Which scene was your favorite?

Let's start at the beginning. His time in the museum with Welty and then, trying to get out of the building pulled me in. I could see him as a very young boy being most scared and confused. Again, many of the events becoming close to Boris felt right if, also extremely depressing. I felt the author had command of that period of his life.

Who was the most memorable character of The Goldfinch and why?

I really liked Hoby. He was most real. His care for the two young people in the book was from the heart. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the best way to describe Theo and Boris.

Any additional comments?

The author gave us a grand tale. I have read Dickens and yes, much like him. However, someone should have edited. Much too long. The last scene in Amsterdam tried to wring juice from a dry orange. Theo's illness and his attempts to leave were bleak and then when Boris showed up, yet another barrage of words. By then if it were not near the end, I would have turned it off. I hope to read more from this author but next time dear publisher, insist on editing.
