Psychic - check. Badass chick with a sword - check. Able to heal from deadly wounds in an instant - that's me. But something is wrong. Something for which my years as an interrogator for the Salem Preternatural Task Force or the witches, werewolves, and vampires from whom I take orders prepared me. I plan to mix a little work with a lot of pleasure.... My usual type? Bad girls. Very bad girls who beg me for dirty things. I prefer to stay far away from virgins. Until I meet Bree. What started out as a failed hit turns out to be a very enticing opportunity. She’s sweet. Awkward. Innocent. Way too young.

A tasty nibble
Revisado: 12-24-18
A fun short story that's light on plot but heavy on steamy content. Teddy is totally hot and Sierra does a great job capturing the funny awkwardness of the female MC. Kind of wish it was longer but still enjoyable.

Great narrator, terrible writing
Revisado: 06-13-18
I've enjoyed other works under this author's pen name but this one is all over the place. This story totally jumped the shark. Sierra Kline is an excellent narrator who manages to save it but the writing at its core is just terrible. :{

Alyssa: A call on a Friday evening. My handsome boss, Julian Marcus, wants me in the office. Something like this has never happened before. I should see it for what it is. Mr. Marcus wants to seduce me. Me. Alyssa. A 21-year-old woman who has never been touched before. But he doesn't know that. Nor do I know how to handle a standoffish man like him - in the office, or in the bedroom. Julian: Alyssa was supposed to be a nameless girl in a city full of nobodies. But I'm the boss. What I want, I get.

Depends on what you're into....
Revisado: 01-22-18
Like this whole genre, I think it's most successful in the sections where it isn't trying to be a 50 shades knock-off. It's fun escapism that manages to avoid some of the worst cliches and takes a few interesting turns. I wasn't so enamored of the male lead, but thought the characters developed overall in satisfying ways. Some steamy bits, but fewer than I was expecting. Another great performance from Sierra is no surprise here.

Historia
A seemingly straightforward private case turns out to be much more complicated - and sinister - than Special Agent A. X. L. Pendergast ever could have anticipated. Pendergast, together with his ward, Constance Greene, travels to the quaint seaside village of Exmouth, Massachusetts, to investigate the theft of a priceless wine collection. But inside the wine cellar, they find something considerably more disturbing: a bricked-up niche that once held a crumbling skeleton.

Maybe it's just me...
Revisado: 10-06-16
The Pendergast books have long been a not so guilty pleasure of mine, really enjoying the mix of action/thriller and fantastic/occult adventure.
*sort of spoilers?*
I'll keep listening to future books, but there was a definite miss for me. Normally I devour these in as few sittings as possible, but I actually stepped away from listening for months after the random scene with Constance because it just felt so off.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not that into Constance and the angle things take in this book just don't make any sense to me. When we first met her several novels ago she seemed intriguing, but over the course of the series they've really made her seem more than a little crazy, fairly immature, and weirdly dense for someone who is supposed to be so smart. While Pendergast began as a mentor figure for her, he's pretty darn condescending to her in this edition. The connection there felt random and out of touch with the dynamic that had been building.
I continue to enjoy Auberjonois's performance. He has a strong sense of pacing and makes just enough subtle distinction between characters to be clear and engaging.

Baking and the Beast
Revisado: 10-06-16
This book, more than anything, made me want all of the fresh baked bread they kept talking about. A solid listen, and my criticisms may be just my personal preferences.
Story:
I enjoyed this series for the most part as a fresh take on a familiar, beloved story. The third book doesn't feel quite as strong as the first two, although it's still good. It felt unnecessary that it's the longest of the three, with a fair amount of re-hashing of ground covered in the first two books. While the sense of the world is strong, we spend a lot of time focusing on preparations for the party without it always seeming to contribute to the plot or character development. While Benella's reluctance based on her trauma felt extremely valid, it felt to me as though that gets overshadowed by the far less believable, less mature, and less compelling notion of whether he likes her....or "likes her likes her". Still, the writing is strong, even when it veers a little angst-y, and kept me engaged wondering how things were going to develop.
Performance:
Another strong performance from Sierra Kline, particularly with the introduction of essentially an entirely new cast of characters for this final installment. I loved the voicing of Egrit. She provided a much needed fun, light-hearted break from some of the heavier sections.

Not what I'd hoped
Revisado: 08-30-16
I found this book to be very average, hence the three stars. The steamy bits are alright, but the interpersonal relationships between the characters aren't stimulating. Meghan seems really selfish so it was hard to relate to her very much. I felt the men were largely interchangeable.
I was disappointed with the narration. While I'm normally a big fan of Sierra Kline's, I feel this was not her best work. I know there's a push in audio books sometimes to do this really flat, straightforward style of reading, but one of the reasons I like her so much is that she doesn't usually do that. I missed her normal vocal quality and felt the tone restricted her ability to perform to her usual high caliber. I hope this isn't a trend for her future works. Sierra, go back to what you do best, please!

Benella is concerned with two things - avoiding the two village boys who torment her and scrounging for food to help feed her family. Unfortunately the best wild fruit and vegetables are near the walls of the estate, a dark, misty place inhabited by an unforgiving beast. When her tormentors lock her behind the massive gates, Benella knows her fate is sealed. Yet the fate isn't one she expects. Her encounter with the beast starts a bizarre cycle of bargaining for her freedom, a freedom the beast seems determined to see her lose.

Totally Compelling
Revisado: 08-11-16
I'm a sucker for the Beauty and the Beast story line, but this was really well done. The familiar plot feels fresh and the characters feel rich and real. The stakes are incredibly high and there's an air of mystery and magic that permeates the entire world. Add that to another solid performance from narrator Sierra Kline, and I'm very excited to hear how this develops in the next book.

Fun....but frustrating
Revisado: 07-24-16
Overall I did enjoy the book. I thought the characters were well developed. The performance is strong and the writing is decent, but I had a lot of problems with the Dom's actions which made me dislike him and the plot felt less believable because of it.
**Spoilers**
What kind of Dom takes a person who is totally new to the scene to an event where they are bound and blindfolded and then *leaves the room*? And takes his partner with him so she is totally unsupervised?
He is really insensitive to his sub past the point of the D/s dynamics. The threesome scene with the best friend felt pretty rapey to me.
Despite the title, there's very little about the dynamic of Ashley being their "toy".
The take down of his nemesis was pretty hand-wavy and didn't feel realistic.
