Incel fuel
Revisado: 12-03-23
I liked aspects of this book a lot, but the main character has persistent Incel traits throughout the book. Basically, if this character were a real person, there would be a whole Facebook group dedicated to warning ladies to avoid him. Makes me wonder if the author shares similar views.

Christian Military Zombie series
Revisado: 11-13-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I kept trudging forward, but as an atheist, the Jesus part really bummed me out. This one should be tagged with "Christian" so those who aren't interested can avoid it. The first book was more heavy on the religion, but every time I started getting into the other parts of the story it was time for another bible verse.
Could you see Arisen Omnibus Edition: Books 1-3 being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.

Historia
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Laurie R. King enjoys immense popularity and a resounding chorus of critical acclaim for her exquisite mysteries. The God of the Hive continues the thread King began in The Language of Bees, in which Mary Russell and her famous husband, Sherlock Holmes, face trouble with Scotland Yard and the deadliest of adversaries.

Interesting take on Holmes/Russell
Revisado: 10-22-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend. It was really enjoyable and the narration was very pleasant.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the focus on Mary Russell and, though it is definitely a departure from the Sherlock Holmes world because I would not really consider it a mystery. I am not sure if I would enjoy reading 5 of these non-mystery Sherlock Holmes books, but I think one or two is a interesting experiment. I'd like to see whether there is room for a couple of "storytelling" books and if that could be woven into a series that will hopefully contain actual mysteries in future.
What about Jenny Sterlin’s performance did you like?
Her voice is perfect for this book and the pace makes it a fun, casual listen.

Historia
Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

Disturbing, but worth the ride
Revisado: 02-03-13
What made the experience of listening to Lolita the most enjoyable?
Jeremy Irons' narration really brought the story to life.
What other book might you compare Lolita to and why?
I can't think of a comparison, this book is well written and so disturbing.
What does Jeremy Irons bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jeremy Irons makes Humbert Humbert human, but doesn't stop him from being culpable.
Any additional comments?
If you start this book and can't imagine why it is a "classic" and are tempted to quit listening, don't. Get through to the end you'll be glad you did.

I really loved this book
Revisado: 03-07-12
What did you love best about Mockingjay?
I got my audible account and bought this book to go on a road trip with my kids - son is 13, daughter, 15. This was a compromise over trying to agree on music. In the past, we've listened to Harry Potter and Gregor the Overlander series on road tripsand enjoyed them, but this was by far my favorite.I didn't even realize when I bought it that this was the same author as the Gregor series, which I also highly recommend, especially for kids between 7 and 11ish.
I am not usually this excited about books targeted at teens. I am not a fan of Twilight or any of the other teen books, so I was surprised at how much I was looking forward to each book. My son had already read the series and really enjoyed the narration.
I listened to all three books within a week. I paid for the last two books without any credits because it was still a few days to the end of the month. I cannot recommend it enough.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I thought Katniss Everdeen was a very complex character, not a spineless whiner or an unnaturally sophisticated teen. She was written as a real girl of her age, sometimes childish, sometimes wise, and very thoughtful.
What does Carolyn McCormick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
While her voices are not perfect- I am sure it is difficult to create so many vocally distinct characters- she really does a great job. I don't know what more I would be looking for in the narration, considering this is not an audio play, it is one person.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I really don't tend to have extreme reactions. I was very involved in the story and bought all three books in one week, so I guess for me, that is extreme.
