Historia
Ray Walker had a secure career in finance until a wine-tasting vacation ignited a passion that he couldn't stifle. Ray neglected his work, spending hours poring over ancient French winemaking texts, learning the techniques and the language, and daydreaming about vineyards. After Ray experienced his first taste of wine from Burgundy, he could wait no longer. He quit his job and went to France to start a winery - with little money, a limited command of French, and virtually no winemaking experience.

Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this memoir of a guy who had a dream and followed that dream. He immersed himself in wine making and made his dream happen and he appears to have been fully supported by his wife. Not many of us would dare to give up a job, move to another country and culture and become an expert and success in a field we previously really knew nothing about. And not many partners would hold down the home fort an ocean away. Plus it was educational and well narrated.

Wonderful!!
Revisado: 08-19-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Me Before You to be better than the print version?
This is a book that was so beautifully narrated that I am sure the print version could never be as good as the audible version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Me Before You?
As one life concludes another life unfolds.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
There were several narrators but the narrator for the main character, Louisa Clark, was just perfect. Wonderful diction, cadence and speed. One of my favorite performances.
Any additional comments?
This is one of the best audible books I have listened to. A bittersweet story with perfect narration.

This is my 3rd Kate Morton and my favorite so far. Like her others she goes back and forth in time. I loved the characters and the story. I loved how everything finally ended. The narration was absolutely lovely. A great listening experience!

Historia
For seven-year-old Raami, the shattering end of childhood begins with the footsteps of her father returning home in the early dawn hours bringing details of the civil war that has overwhelmed the streets of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. Soon the family’s world of carefully guarded royal privilege is swept up in the chaos of revolution and forced exodus. Over the next four years, as she endures the deaths of family members, starvation, and brutal forced labor, Raami clings to the only remaining vestige of childhood - the mythical legends and poems told to her by her father.

wanted to like it but didn't
Revisado: 11-10-12
What would have made In the Shadow of the Banyan better?
The story is supposed to be from the point of view of a 7 yr old child but I don't know any 7 yr old that would have this degree of maturity in the way she viewed and related to her world.
What could Vaddey Ratner have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
If the narrator were a teenager the book would have been more believable.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Greta Lee?
I didn't like the narrator. There was way too much 'punctuation' in her voice. Between her way of reading and the prose of the book I often found my attention wandering.
Any additional comments?
I really wanted to like this book as I know it is autobiographical and the author lived through a horrific time but the main character was just not realistic and the narrator of the book irritated me.

could have been shorter

This was an interesting account of the murder of Adam Walsh and the investigation into the matter. It was a very frustrating account riddled with ineptitude. The narration was fine. It just could have been a lot shorter.

Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

fascinating

I found this book to be quite fascinating-- a murdered president and the lunatic who shot him, Alexander Graham Bell and Lister and the beginning of germ theory. The book was so clearly written and narrated that it made listening a pleasure.

From the two-time Man Booker short-listed author of The Secret Scripture comes a magnificent new novel that is the story of the twentieth century in America. Told in the first person, as a narrative of Lilly Bere’s life over seventeen days, On Canaan’s Side opens as Lilly mourns the loss of her grandson, Bill.

good story, great narration
Revisado: 02-02-12
This book was quite well narrated. The Irish lilt is wonderful. The story of Lily is sad but accepting and compassionate. A book of the ravages of war told in a quiet and lyrical way. I listened to this right after listening to 'Johnny Got Your Gun', another anti-war piece. (that was a very well done book also).

Great Story with Perfect Narration
Revisado: 10-30-11
I just finished this-- listened 2 times which is unusual for me but I needed to listen a second time for some of the nuances I missed first time around. This is the story of a distinguished lawyer and judge told back and forth thru time. Old Filth--'failed in London, try Hong Kong', is a Raj Orphan. Dark but in a dry, British, 'stiff upper lip' sort of way. The narrator is perfect for the job. This book would be a great book club selection-- lots to discuss. I just downloaded 'The Man in the Wooden Hat' which is his wife's story.

perfect narration
Revisado: 06-26-11
This book was extremely well narrated. The story was quite good-- I enjoyed the evolution of Marina, the main character. This is the 2nd Ann Patchett novel I have read-- the first one being Belle Canto. I enjoy her rather ethereal way of writing and it translates well to an audible version.
