Male narrator microphone clarity
Revisado: 04-15-25
Great story! The female narrator was fantastic. Her voice was strong, clear and annunciated well. The male narrator on the other hand was terrible. If the volume is turned up extra loud, then things are fine… not damaging your hearing notwithstanding lol. Listening at normal volume however; his microphone clarity is terrible. It sounds like he’s mumbling. So keep that in mind. The 2 narrators together make the story sound very disjointed. The male’s narrated parts really needs to be redone with higher quality.

Narration and story are epic!
Revisado: 08-20-24
This is the first audiobook series I’ve listened to where the narrator used actual children’s voices for the kids in the story and an actual female singer with music during those parts in the chapters. It all made the series so much more real, captivating, engaging and entertaining! Definitely recommended!

Historia
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Fantastic and hilarious
Revisado: 02-06-24
Molly Harper is a wonderful author and this was a fantastic first book for this series!! I was laughing so hard within the first 5 minutes of listening and kept on laughing! Sometimes I laughed so hard it made me cry, and kept on laughing for about 70% of the book. If you like PNF books, particularly ones written with a lot of humor, sarcasm, wit and tongue-in-cheek type commentary, you’ll enjoy this book and I highly recommend it!!
The joint world of shifters and humans that Harper has created in this series is very interesting, different than typical shifter plots and was thrilling to learn about. I could very easily see this series becoming a fun loving humorous tv series!
The narration was great for what it was, but it did feel disjointed to me, which was a tad off putting. Why? Because the narrators switched between the FMC and MMC in whole chapter segments. The female narrator spoke ALL parts (including the males) for her reading parts and the male narrator did the same in reverse (including the females) for his parts. So this meant there were 2 very different versions of voice for each character, which I couldn’t ever seem to get used to. It was a little hard to relax and enjoy listening, I really had to focus for the first 3-5 minutes of every chapter that was switched on who narrated it. It was odd.
When there’s more than 1 narrator, it should be done as 1 narrator being assigned to read certain characters and the same for all other narrators. There should never be 2+ voices for each character, especially when they are main characters and end up speaking A LOT. But, that’s not the narrator’s faults… that’s a producer fault. So I didn’t take off any stars. Overall, I loved the story, the world and I’m thrilled the entire series is free right now! On to book 2 I go! :)

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

Narrator is terrible
Revisado: 01-08-24
I really hate it when the narrator is changed mid-series. This is the THIRD narrator in only 5 books. I don’t get it. But for this fifth book, it’s the worst narrative ever. Her voices are terrible and sound NOTHING like any of the others. At least the other 2 narrators sounded similar. She has totally botched Nesta’s character entirely. Same with Feyre, Rhysand, Mor, Azriel. The only 2 voices she had that sound even a tiny bit like previously done are Mor and Cassian…. and that’s being generous. PLEASE bring back Ikeda or Cobb for any future books. Sigh. Do yourself a favor and just read the text. It’s not worth a credit.

Narrator read way too fast
Revisado: 01-07-24
Loved the story, just as I’ve loved the previous 3 in the series. Cobb has narrated 2/3 of the last 3 books but for some reason, she narrated this one at hyper speed. I had to slow it down to 0.75 to get that same tempo and cadence of the other 3 ACOTAR books. Other than that, the storyline was a great addition, and sets up the beginnings of a plot for the next book… or so I hope. Amazing writing by the author, as always.

Historia
I thought I had everything figured out. I’d gone to the academy for witches and mastered my magic. I’d opened my own witchy occult store, just as I always wanted. And my family was as close as ever. Everything was going according to plan. Until the wolves showed up and dragged me back to their land. It was all a misunderstanding. They had the wrong girl, the wrong idea. I was just a witch. And then I shifted. But nothing is as it appears…and now my life is in danger.

Too much Spanish
Revisado: 12-28-23
Just like all the Coven books, this one is a great addition. I like Inez and Foster a lot. I don’t agree with the author saying this is a standalone book and that you don’t have to have read the others. If you don’t/haven’t, you won’t understand the backstory at all regarding Amelia and Maddox, Koth’s leadership style, what’s been going on with the war and Lilith up to the point Inez was chosen via prophecy and many other small things. You’ll be confused. At least a little bit. So I highly recommend you follow Chandelle’s website reading order.
That said, the narrator does a fantastic job as she always does, with tone, inflection and voice impressions, as well as with her Spanish. We get tiny bits of it from Paulina in previous books, but this is the first book with SO MUCH Spanish. Most readers choosing a book written in English, want to read/listen to it in English. It makes the story very hard to follow, understand and appreciate the nuances. I’ve no idea what possessed the author to write this much Spanish into her storyline but it isn’t appropriate this late in the Coven series.
Translation would be easier to do in written form, but for narrating an audiobook? All the Spanish should’ve been spoken in English with a Hispanic accent. Like she has with 99% of what Paulina says.
I feel like I paid a premium for half a book and now I also feel like I need to go read the text to translate it myself so I fully understand what’s been said. Homework when reading for fun is NOT fun.
Do better Chandelle.

Grier Woolworth spends her nights weaving spooky tales of lost souls and tragedies for tourists on the streets of downtown Savannah. Hoop skirt and parasol aside, it's not a bad gig. The pay is crap, but the tips keep the lights on in her personal haunted mansion and her pantry stocked with ramen. Life is about as normal as it gets for an ex-necromancer hiding among humans - until the society that excommunicated Grier offers her a second chance at being more than ordinary. Too bad no one warned her the trouble with being extraordinary is it can get you killed.

Listen at 0.95/0.90 & stick with the narrator!
Revisado: 11-15-23
I’ve read A LOT of reviews saying they just couldn’t stand the narrator’s voice (Rebecca Mitchell) and they gave up.
I think that’s a mistake. Yes, the narrator’s voice, tone, inflection and cadence are all a bit odd, at first. BUT, I found it much easier to listen, grasp and enjoy when I slowed her down just a tiny bit. I listened to this Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series at 0.95 (listen/read to this series first for a better experience!) and then The Potentate of Atlanta series at 0.90.
Grier comes off as kind of odd herself, which considering her upbringing, traumatic experiences at Atramentous a haunted house, no family etc. - I think the narrator captured Grier’s unease and slightly odd personality quite well!
The first 3 chapters or so (maybe about 1 hour total) is all it took me to get hooked on the series, immerse my mind into the storyline and get used to the narrator’s oddities.
If you stick with it and slow her down a tiny bit, you just might fall in love with Grier and family like I did.
