Historia
As the daughter of a drug dealer, Wavy knows not to trust people, not even her own parents. It's safer to keep her mouth shut and stay out of sight. Struggling to raise her little brother, Donal, eight-year-old Wavy is the only responsible adult around. Obsessed with the constellations, she finds peace in the starry night sky above the fields behind her house until one night her stargazing causes an accident. After witnessing his motorcycle wreck, she forms an unusual friendship with one of her father's thugs, Kellen, a tattooed ex-con with a heart of gold.

The title of the book is so fitting
Revisado: 03-23-25
Title of the book is so fitting! I stumbled upon this book, I think it was dead cheap. A little girl growing up in a broken home with a mom that’s high and depressed 90% of the time, an abusive father who runs a meth lab and deals. Everything around her is chaos. Forced to “raise” her little brother, there is no hope for her. Except Kallum. It feels wrong to even call it a love story, but it is. In a weird a creepy way, it is a beautiful love story. Well written and narrated, great story development. Really great book! 4.5/5

Just amazing!
Revisado: 03-07-25
Let’s me just get this out of the way - AMAZING Book!!! Now back to the beginning, the book is about the Vietnam 🇻🇳 war, following a journey of the women who went to Vietnam as army nurses. The gruesome things they experienced & witnessed. The healing and hope they gave and the few moments of life they shared in-between the bombs, surgeries, loss and pain. Life after Vietnam carried so much pain, unacknowledged PTSD, long road to healing, resilience, friendship, despair and finally hope. I love how realistic the main character’s relationship with her mom and dad was. The story development is amazing. First I thought, “this is a good book”, then good turned to great and then great turned to exceptional!! A solid 5/5

A strong sequel
Revisado: 12-29-24
For the first few chapters I was upset that the happy ending from the first book was shattered so violently, I was not enjoying the book. Maybe also a tad too long but ahhh, it is good!! Great narration, heart wrenching story with key themes of Patriarchy, child marriage, child slavery, Female genital mutilation, The fight for freedom and education. Miss Tia and Adunni both confronting their pasts. Oh did I cry and cry!! I need a light read after this. It was a great sequel!

Immature and boring - I wanted to like it 😔
Revisado: 10-06-24
I wanted to like the book. The reviews were good at 4.5/5. I didn’t enjoy it at all. I think I’m too old to read about an immature young adult finding her way in life. Felt like reading being Mary Jane Season whatever. Young black woman dealing with ticking clock, boyfriend non-committal, tension with her girlfriends, Race issues at work and in life – living in the USA as a black person being stopped by the cops while black, being reported on for existing while black, being expected to be an activist about everything cause you’re back. It just didn’t touch my soul though. And I’m black (granted not American), but was rolling my eyes half the time. Narration was ok, bit exaggerated at times. Now I’m stuck with book 2 & 3 of the series that I bought on sale 😭😭😭!! It’s a 2/5 for me.

Insightful and heartbreaking
Revisado: 09-23-24
This is a book about the revolution in Syria from 2011. The internal “war” that saw thousands of people lose EVERYTHING had my heart outside my chest the whole time, sadly it doesn’t seem like life is any better today. It made me reflect on real people’s lives in a war stricken community. The attempt at normal life, love and relationships in between the bombs, the snipers, the rape, the deep trauma, the hallucination, the pain of it all. The hope that lives in the people’s hearts for peace, freedom and normal life. The hope that the world will see them. They hope that they matter to the world. The hope that they too are human. The whole time I listened to the book, I had a picture of Gaza. Lord have mercy.

Beautiful with so much depth
Revisado: 09-04-24
What a beautiful story. Well written, beautifully narrated and very unpredictable. Set around 1947 when India got independence from Britain. Follows the lives of 3 sisters as they navigate family, life, Love and their personal dreams. The political turmoil in the country makes normal life so much more challenging. A reminder of the destructiveness of colonisation, the polarization of religion. So much loss, but in the end Love is the one thing that binds them together, whether they know it or not. A solid 5/5.

Good book
Revisado: 07-24-24
I like that the story leaves no stone unturned. It’s a bit long but enjoyable book. Definitely has a hook. I had one main issue with the story. It was being told more than it was happening, this was strange for me. I didn’t enjoy that dynamic about the way it was written. I wanted to experience the characters more personally and the story telling got in the middle of that for me.

African women carry so much - satisfying read
Revisado: 06-17-24
Set in Nigeria, a beautiful African story of two women whose paths cross in the most mind blowing unexpected way. A young girl who’s lost her parents and left with a terrible stepmother becomes a Maid, dealing with physical and sexual abuse. Falls in love and gets pregnant out of ignorance. Goes back home to the same stepmother abuse and forced to marry a dead man so that the “mother in law” can take the child. Another woman who marries out of her mom’s manipulation to a man she doesn’t live, fakes being pregnant to trap the man but then she cannot conceive. A well written, amazingly narrated story that carries all the troubles of African women. I wish the happy ending was spelled out 😅 but it’s a better ending creatively I know. 4.5/5
African women carry so much pain and quite frankly so much NONSENSE (I don’t have the grace to come up with a more diplomatic word right now, just facts). But like it unfolds in the book, we also emerge as victorious, fearless warriors. Build strength and resilience from all these ridiculous expectations that society puts on us. We build so much from nothing and carry it all with so much grace and poise!!!! Eyhhh 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Mostly childish but gets good in the end
Revisado: 05-03-24
I love a good love story, worse, I have a thing for interracial couples ✊🏾. It got really good towards the end. But honestly the story was weak for me. The female character was quite childish half the time to the point of annoyance. And before you get your panties tied in a knot, I am African, I can relate to a few of the elements playing out. It was worth the read, but not a high score for me. 3/5
