I appreciate his work with the people of the industry
Revisado: 11-17-23
Garry was a really good caretaker of the people under his care as he went about the business of filmmaking. He wanted everyone to have fun, and be cared for on his watch. I loved the stories he told, and how he looked after the vulnerabilities of the actors. What a kind man.

Historia
When Dr Nell Ward stumbles across a woman's body amongst the purple heather on Furze Heath, she was on the lookout for nests of poisonous adders. But something is lurking out here far more dangerous than vipers. A cold-blooded killer is on the loose and this is not his first victim. As DI James Clark begins to investigate, a pattern emerges pointing towards this being the work of a serial killer. Every victim shares the same physical characteristics - all of which are a match to Nell herself.

Excellent narration , characters exhaust me.
Revisado: 09-17-23
The continuing themes of “does he love me?” “am I good enough” “oh, I feel so guilty” are exhausting. They are at odds with the clever and intelligent competence of our main character, yet she keeps dragging her self down in those themes. Also, the bit about giving us glimpses into the mind of the perpetrator, cleverly using only pronouns, so we have to keep guessing, becomes tedious. That said, I feel like each of the characters were left in a strong place at the end of this one, and hope that they can move forward, solving the mystery and crimes, and not whingeing about themselves.

Historia
Mark Clague brilliantly weaves together the stories of the song and the nation it represents. Examining the origins of both text and music, alternate lyrics and translations, and the song’s use in sports, at times of war, and for political protest, he argues that the anthem’s meaning reflects—and is reflected by—the nation’s quest to become a more perfect union. From victory song to hymn of sacrifice and vehicle for protest, the story of Key’s song is the story of America itself.

Exhaustive history, narration could be better.
Revisado: 08-01-22
There is no stone left unturned here, this is an exhaustive and comprehensive study on the origins of our anthem. I didn’t know that the tune was ubiquitous, with over 100 different lyrics before Key got hold of it.
Performance-wise, the narration has a distracting number of mispronounced words. Enough that Audible should do some touching up with the narrator. In a book about a song about a flag, the word “ensign” should be said correctly. There were many other stumbles such as this along the way. Disappointing.

Performance issues
Revisado: 09-02-19
This book was exhaustively researched, with many many pieces of information. It did read as a bit of a “list of things that happened” and less as narrative. My issue was with the performance. Audible, where was your editor? Some egregious mispronunciations, happened enough to be very distracting. “Poignant” with a hard g. “Shuts-PA” for chutzpah. Spiro Agnew’s first name as “Spyro” These are the highlights, there were more. I expect better from Audible productions.
