Revisado: 06-21-24
I am a voracious listener of Cozy Mysteries so I have heard so many familiar story lines but this one is new to me : the secretary of Sherlock Holmes! I'm not going to give a summary of the book because I want the readers to be surprised with this great plot twist! Enjoy, fellow readers! It will be worth every minute!

Historia
On the first snowy night of winter, Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope sets off for her home in the hills. Though the road is familiar, she misses a turning and soon becomes lost and disorientated. A car has skidded off the narrow road in front of her, its door left open, and she stops to help. There is no driver to be seen, so Vera assumes that the owner has gone to find help. But a cry calls her back: a toddler is strapped in the back seat.

It's great even the second time around. I think I shall listen to my Scottie more closely after this.
These books are great! Lots of humor along with a suspenseful mystery. Love the animals and how they try so hard to communicate with their humans.

Timely book
Revisado: 03-16-21
I think this book has come "for such a time as this"! I have been lifted up and slammed down emotionally by the story and continue to be in awe of the courage and strength of those who have come before us. I have also been humbled and dismayed by our inhumanity towards those in need. This is a story that must be told! NOW! Please read this book. Kristin Hannah 's writing is at its best!

Great Read!
Revisado: 09-21-20
My daughter gave me this book and I have enjoyed it immensely! It is beautifully written with well developed characters with whom it is easy to relate. It made me laugh out loud and cringe and weep. I want to hear more from this author especially about Emmaline and her friends! It also makes me proud of the women who "held the fort" so admirably in WWII, my mother being among them. The narrator did a superb job of bringing the characters to life! A. J. Pearce, please, please write more about Emmaline and Bunty!

Great mystery
Revisado: 06-23-20
What a great mystery! Though it was written in 1929 and it reflects some of the prejudice of its time , I enjoyed the book immensely and was able to overlook those things. I agree with other reviews that sometimes the story plodded along but that did not take away from my enjoyment of a story well told. Nicola Upson is correct when she writes that Josephine Tey rates right up there with Agatha Christie. I am looking forward to the next book.

What fun! I enjoy this team of sleuths so much! Can't wait for the next one! The idea of teaming a young woman police constable and a near retirement coroner is genius. These stories are not too gritty but there is suspense enough with very interesting cases. Best read in order. Enjoy!!
