I disliked the book in every aspect. I wish I had never bought been foolish enough to buy it.

This is a beautiful story. My family came to Texas in 1835, They must have felt the terror of possible Indian raids. This book is so gentle with the presentation of what it was like when civility of the white man clashed with the civility of the indigenous people. Two ancient cultures with impossible barriers to coexistence left wreaking their damage on innocent children.

This book tells a story about the USA in a time that changed us forever. My own family left the farm for work in Houston. Now I have an idea of the forces that came together to change America from a rural nation to an economic powerhouse. My family never forgot their rural roots, but we put down new roots in a boiling, bubbling city and had to hang on as it exploded in growth and industrial power around us.

Would you try another book from Steven Pinker and/or Arthur Morey?

Yes

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The theory and analysis is very thorough, but it is very difficult to listen to the data-heavy material without succinct conclusions surfacing. This book has a great amount of data, a testament to the author's depth of research, but it is overkill without enough summarization to enable the listener to make sensible progress through the data.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The clarity of the voice is overpowered by the firehose quantity of data.

Do you think The Better Angels of Our Nature needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, unless it was a summary and comparison between this theory and others.

Any additional comments?

This is one of the few audiobooks I could not bring myself to complete.
