I was very excited to begin a new Quirk novel. I loved all of the others. The narrator is so awful on this one that I couldn’t even finish it. Unfortunately, I struggled through too much of it to return it. Hopefully he won’t do any other books.

I almost gave up listening because the narration was so bad. She made the female protagonist sound like a bratty, obnoxious, and flippant teenager instead of a serious young woman fighting literally for her life. I intend to read the next book instead of listening.
I liked the fact that the dragons were in charge of the human riders and the fact that they chose them for qualities that some did not know they possessed. I look forward to more back stories. That being said, I found the uber graphic sex scenes to be completely unnecessary. The sexual tension between the two made their relationship interesting. Once they consummated their relationship and the reader is aware they have had sex, that should have been enough. The language and description of the act cheapened the moment. I actually fast forwarded through the scenes because they were tiresome. I wondered if the author was trying to make sure this series would not be categorized as YA.

This is a story of friendship, perseverance, respect, love, and civility. Charming, sweet, and very touching. I enjoyed every moment spent with these amazing people.

The story was fairly interesting, but I almost gave up and returned this book because of the narration. The various voices were so irritating and poorly done. I do not understand why the narrator felt this was necessary rather than just maintaining his normal voice for all the characters. Is there no one to edit the final product?

This has been one of my favorite Baldacci series. Decker has been a unique character and his story has been interesting to follow. Not this time. This storyline is plodding. Too much going on. The tension between Decker and the normal world is missing. Throwing Robie in the mix is also over the top and unnecessary. The narrator tries unsuccessfully to differentiate voices. This book could have used some serious editing .

I am a Baldacci fan, but am not sure about Archer. He has possibilities as a character, but the writing was trying so hard to be noir that is was cartoonish at times. The narration was awful, especially the women. He completely altered their characters with his clipped and stilted interpretations. The worst dialogue was Shaw’s. He was a caricature of a forties lawman. Baldacci tried to put too many issues into the story that I found distracting.

Awful. Awful story, boring, tedious characters, and terrible, cartoonish narration. Have bought my last Kellerman book after reading all the others. I have always disliked the narration, but the story was good enough to finish. I had to quit listening to this ridiculous story. It was too painful.

Hard to root for anyone in this book. That may be the intention, but even evil characters can have redeeming qualities that make the reader want them to succeed, like Lisbeth Solander. Cassie Bowdoin is just annoying, self pitying, reckless and not too bright. The narrator of the Elena character has a very annoying voice; hard to listen to. Made me want to skip forward through her chapters. Not sure I will do another Bohjalian book.

What would have made Night Moves better?

It took too long to get going. The kid characters were ridiculous in their attitudes and conversation.

What was most disappointing about Jonathan Kellerman’s story?

It did not hold interest. Hard to be interested with no characters to be sympathetic to. I used to love the stories that had more relationship between Alex and Robin and Milo.

What didn’t you like about John Rubenstein’s performance?

His accents are horrible. He makes the younger detectives sound like dummies or over eager puppies. I hate the voice he uses for Milo. He sounds like a dumb New York thug instead of a complicated and interesting man.

What character would you cut from Night Moves?

The son.He adds nothing to the story except being an obnoxious caricature of a teenager. The daughter is more interesting but is not developed.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Only someone who is not tired of the same rehashing of prior events

What could Patricia Cornwell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have a new story which doesn't take hours to get to the point.

What aspect of Susan Ericksen’s performance would you have changed?

Her performance is okay but she does a poor job on the accents, especially Marino's

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No

Any additional comments?

This will be my last one. Cornwall has gotten lazy and has not moved the characters forward in any meaningful or interesting way. Same Kay, same Benton, same Lucy. Same tired story lines.
