Historia
The Old Testament - written in ancient Israel by many different authors over the course of a thousand years - has had more meaning to more people than any other book the world has known. In a series of 24 lively lectures, Professor Levine explores selected passages from the texts known as the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and the Tanakh, revealing how fresh research and findings from scholars of archaeology, cross-cultural studies, and comparative religion can deepen your understanding.

Facts and info that support lextures and provide great insights
Revisado: 08-09-24
I thought this was an outstanding lecture series. The author/narrator is incredibly knowledgeable about the Bible, but also brings into the discussion, archaeology, wisdom, literature, apocalyptic, literature, facts about culture before the common era, etc. She is extremely well-versed.

Historia
It's easy to suffer from frustration and confusion when it comes to nutrition and health. With so much focus on what, when, and how to eat, the emotional component of eating tends to get left behind. Dr. Will Cole sheds light on the relationship between your physical and emotional health, providing a framework for you to better understand the gut-brain connection and influence that connection for the better. He illustrates how stress and shame can cause gut inflammation and sabotage your health in a process called Shameflammation.

Sound, practical knowledge and advice
Revisado: 05-03-24
Dr. Cole had me hooked from the beginning of this book. He has such a simple example of the brain gut connection that I felt compelled to listen to the whole book. His knowledge is extensive and his methodologies seem very sound.

Historia
Imagine a 1980s world of sumptuous hotel rooms, restaurants, New York City penthouses, and the powerful men who move easily between these pinnacles of luxury. They are music producers, rock stars, writers, and restaurateurs. They are household names like Billy Joel, Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, and Sting. And yet, each man has an entire aspect to his life that he doesn’t talk about publicly—his depression, his rocky marriage, his feelings of shame and failure, his private loss of faith. And now: The phone rings. Imagine the woman who has each of these men at her beck and call.

Interesting storyline
Revisado: 12-29-22
This was an intriguing story that I was able to listen to as I did a little things around the house. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it as much if I were sitting purely listening because it does move a bit slowly. It does show that old habits die hard.

Historia
Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored. We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances with whom you keep meaning to get dinner. We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive. Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

Not worth the read
Revisado: 05-11-22
I like a good murder mystery and that’s what I was expecting when I opened this book. Even in that genre, you can always find a character or two that you like or identify with. I neither liked nor identified with any of the characters in this book. It’s incredulous to believe that a couples fetish would be torturing and murdering women but I willing to go along with it for a good story. The book is also too long at 72 chapters. Even though they are each relatively short, I actually skipped a few chapters here and there because the details weren’t necessary to the story. I didn’t care for the narration and the various voices that the narrator depicted. The characterization of Millicent, albeit a murderer, is terrible and her husband is spineless.

Historia
Clara Lawson is torn from her life in an instant. Without warning, her home is invaded by armed men, and she finds herself separated from her beloved husband and daughters. The last thing her husband yells to her is to say nothing. In chapters that alternate between past and present, the novel slowly unpeels the layers of Clara's fractured life. We see her growing up, raised with her sisters by the stern Mama and Papa G, becoming a poised and educated young woman, falling desperately in love with the forbidden son of her adoptive parents.

Great read
Revisado: 05-22-21
This book was excellent! I was captivated by the characters and the narration by Brittany Pressley was superb. The topic is heavy (once you realize well into the book what's occurred, even if you had suspicions along the way) but handled well and not at all raunchy or overly descriptive. I would highly recommend this book.

Unlikeable characters
Revisado: 08-14-18
In every book I’ve ever read, I found a character that I liked, even if they were not the best person. However, in this book I did not find a single character that was likable. They are lying, deceitful, immoral, and unethical. Even toward the end of the book I didn’t find that any of them did much to redeem ourselves. I know this book got rave reviews and one of the reviews I saw was how complex the characters were But don’t agree. I think they were very basil in their character. I found the book very difficult to get into and it wasn’t until midway through the book that I became somewhat interested in the plot. It also took 2/3 of the way through the book to understand why it was titled My Husband’s Wife.

Strong storyline, loved Alaska details
Revisado: 05-07-18
I loved the setting of this novel. The domestic violence was hard to read about over and over, but I understand this is some women’ lives. I was hoping that Cora would have gotten stronger earlier, and I do understand her actions in the name of love for her child. Some parts of the book are a little unbelievable but overall I really loved this book. Julia Whelan’s narration is excellent.
