Rory Miller's Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected includes seven elements that must be addressed to bring self-defense training to something approaching complete. These elements are: legal and ethical implications, violence dynamics, avoidance, counter-ambush, breaking the freeze, the fight itself, and the aftermath. Training that dismisses any of these areas leaves you vulnerable.

Must read!
Revisado: 07-23-23
Rory Miller's Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected is an invaluable resource that shares a holistic approach to self-defense training. Encompassing seven vital elements—legal and ethical implications, violence dynamics, avoidance, counter-ambush, breaking the freeze, the fight itself, and the aftermath—this book equips you to face any unforeseen circumstance. I gleaned a lot of perspective from this book, emphasizing the importance of addressing all these aspects to safeguard against vulnerability during self-defense situations. I hope I'm never in a situation to need it, and I feel better prepared just in case.

Historia
It’s hard enough coming out, but playing basketball for a nationally ranked school and trying to figure out your sexual identity in the closeted and paranoid world of big-time college sports - that’s a challenge. Kate Fagan’s love for basketball and for her religious teammates at the University of Colorado was tested by the gut-wrenching realization that she could no longer ignore the feelings of otherness inside her. In trying to blend in, Kate had created a hilariously incongruous world for herself in Boulder.

Amazing memoir!
Revisado: 01-21-23
This memoir was well-done, thought-provoking, and I felt that her writing style made it easy to connect with her and her story. Kate Fagan was clearly not a stranger to doing hard things through her academic and athletic careers. Then, she finds herself in a position through trying to connect with her team members and in an evangelical group who seemingly tried to help but alienated her core self. She demonstrated so much courage and her sharing her story will no doubt help others who either are struggling themselves and/or want to support loved ones coming out.

Overall, a good read! Focusing on that one thing… I appreciated the suggestions that seemed not possible or impractical but had some hard to argue with business or success cases. This book challenged some of my assumptions and approaches to work. I took away some tips…

A compelling thriller, a page turner…
Revisado: 01-16-23
This was a well- written thriller for sure, I was drawn to the deep connection that Sarah and Tracy had as sisters. The twists and turns of this book kept you engrossed in reading. I wouldn’t have imagined the ending to this book.
Tracy’s character is one who can be empathized with and her move from being a teacher to a detective is beneficial in this case (both roles actually)… in ways you won’t picture until you read it. Tracy’s strong character won’t let her stop at anything short of finding her sister’s killer even if it means rocking boats throughout the town.
This thriller is compelling from cover to end and will keep you turning the pages. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Anyone can benefit from this book!
Revisado: 01-12-23
Atomic Habits is frankly a gift to anyone with an interest in building or getting rid of habits. James Clear gets into the psychology of habits and breaks down his process and logic so that it’s useful for anyone to grasp.
I feel that I build and keep habits well and I still took lots of notes and took away tips and tricks. Little incremental consistencies build big changes.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Will keep you engaged!
Revisado: 01-11-23
This was my first read by Anni Taylor. This book kept me engaged from the start. There were a lot of characters throughout the book and it was hard especially in the first half to get to know some of them as they didn’t fully develop til the end. I will say that I never would have guessed the ending and much of me was like…. How is this possible? I found Isla’s character to be unique, independent, direct, autonomous, and yet vulnerable. I’m looking forward to reading more Anni Taylor books.
