I know the writer is the narrator but it sounds like he’s reading from cue cards and not very well.

Couldn’t get past the first ten minutes with how terrible everyone and everything sounded.
Don’t waste the credit. Go to the NPR version which is free on Audible.

It was fine. Not the horror I wanted.

If you’re wanting deep space horror this is more a character study about the sins of the people who came before destroying the lives of the ones who follow. It was well written. The characters were super engaging. It just wasn’t what I thought it was and I didn’t think it gave the closure for the main problem.
So for that I wasn’t too into it by the end.

I was extremely surprised at how well these stories were executed and paced having never heard of the writer but I think he’s going into the top of my list for future books!

Like a Dark Fantasy Sanderson

These books are as propulsive and wonderfully written and paced as anything mainstream in the Fantasy genre.
I’ve searched high and low for an indie fantasy series that strikes the dark, almost horrific chords of the other fiction I like and this has it in spades.
Haven’t found any other series this expansive that could hold me for the remainder of the book let alone the whole universe.
Some of the best Dark Fantasy I’ve ever read and listened to.

Fix narration with 1.25x speed! These books are amazing!

I saw that people were having issues with the narrators lisp and slow speech and I found it remedied with 1.25x speed!
I’ve listened to Becks other supernatural SciFi series and this is the beginning of my Alex Hunter run and I can’t wait!

Absolutely worth the credit if dark fantasy/grim dark is your thing!

I think this trilogy has been the rare occasion where targeted book social media ads have brought me to an amazing series. Such well written, sometimes brutal, and always interesting worldbuilding is unmatched in the few times I’ve been drawn from social ads and this one is a home run. Especially with all of the trilogy for ONE CREDIT! I’m going to grab everything this writer has on the platform I am THAT impressed with this trilogy.

This series keeps on hitting! NEED BOOK III AUDIBLE!

I was looking and looking for months for an amazing Dark Fantasy/ Horror series and this is absolutely the best series I’ve found so far.
His writing of the fantasy, horror, politics, and lived in complex and inventive worlds is far and away above anyone else writing in this vein.
I will now buy and read or listen to anything he releases!!

Really great. Runs a bit longer than you want.

The writing painted an amazing picture and doled out little morsels of evidence in this detective story.
Was so good. But the pacing seemed to fall off after around Act III.
The novel was made into like a V Act story when it should’ve been a III.
Other than that I couldn’t stop listening!
