Historia
Turning 30, artist and speaker Kyle Scheele wanted to do something unusual to mark this milestone. Instead of a birthday bash, he decided to hold a funeral to memorialize the decade of his life that was ending. Building a 16-foot Viking ship out of cardboard, he invited friends to help him set it on fire—a symbolic farewell to his 20s and all the grief, regret, and mistakes that accompanied those years.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Another Hit
Revisado: 05-02-15
The book is even MORE blood pumping, energetic, and emotional roller coaster as the first. Sally Green really conveys the voice of Nathan as a troubled young man looking for his purpose and what he has had to ensure for being who he is. A lot of "nazi regime" mentality kept coming to mind as Sol wrecks havoc to both white witches , black witches, and half breeds.

Historia
Her life by the sea in ruins, Pen has lost everything in the Earth Shaker that all but destroyed the city of Los Angeles. She sets out into the wasteland to search for her family, her journey guided by a tattered copy of Homer’s Odyssey. Soon she begins to realize her own abilities and strength as she faces false promises of safety, the cloned giants who feast on humans, and a madman who wishes her dead. On her voyage, Pen learns to tell stories that reflect her strange visions, while she and her fellow survivors navigate the dangers that lie in wait. In her signature style, Francesca Lia Block has created a world that is beautiful in its destruction and as frightening as it is lovely.

Beautiful

I enjoy reading everything from Francesca Lia Block and this new book was great. I'm really getting into these writer retelling classics. The way Block portrayed her lead character and gender switching was very clever. Definitely give it a try.

Historia
Fera, the queen of the fertile elves of Kagwig, was out in the market place with her pregnant sisters. In her tribe, the females outnumbered the males ten to one, so getting pregnant was a constant struggle, and they were in danger of extinction. The brutal and sadistic ogre king Baphazar had the opposite problem. His gruesome ogres scoured the land for females to handle the ogres insane sexual lust. The elven coven had pride over who they mated with.

Historia
Grave-robbing. What kind of monster would do such a thing? It's true that Leonardo da Vinci did it, Shakespeare wrote about it, and the resurrection men of 19th-century Scotland practically made it an art. But none of this matters to Joey Crouch, a 16-year-old straight-A student living in Chicago with his single mom. For the most part, Joey's life is about playing the trumpet and avoiding the daily humiliations of high school. Everything changes when Joey's mother dies in a tragic accident and he is sent to rural Iowa to live with the father he has never known....

Can this be made into a movie?...... PLEASE!!!!!!!
Revisado: 12-28-13
I would love to know if this is an actual thing. Do grave robbers work in a tight secret group? Searching the obituaries for any sign of a "good dig"? Treasures and money with danger and sadness. The characters stories felt believable in a "6 Feet Under" kind of way. I felt bad for the main character's bullying because he didn't deserve it but I also see how it made him pro-active. Towards the end my heart was thumping so loud with the suspense, horror, and excitement of the villain and hero battle. I got to meet the author a few years back when this book was released and I wish I had read now when I met him because I would like to know more about the story.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Because I had to.
Revisado: 12-28-13
I read it because everyone in the world had read it and it takes place in my hometown almost near my house. And I don't regret it! wonderful from start to finish. I was inspired to read about other darkly historic books on Chicago during this time period. I love it when I read a good historical fiction novel then delves me even further into history. I say give it a try if you haven't because I promise you..... you won't be disappointed either.

Dark and Menacing
Revisado: 12-28-13
Filled with dark suspense and "The Walking Dead" feeling. You don't know who will survive in the end, surprises at every corner, and real mind-f*cking. You don't know who to trust. Everyone is looking for help but these teens are left to save them selves or die. Fantastic and I'm excited to see what's next for this author. I felt pulled in from the very beginning.
