Excellent narration. Gripping scenes and scalding descriptions which bear intimate witness to the shame, horror, and undeniable reality of prejudice, discrimination, misogyny, racism, and on.

Interesting details, great historical context, disappointingly Eurocentric

Despite providing a sky high overview of the history of poetry, this book does include many small, fascinating details about the lives of some of the greatest poets the world has ever known.

However the perspective is quite Eurocentric. I was very disappointed in the disproportionate amount of time spent on male English poets versus everyone else. Just two minutes dedicated to the great Maya Angelou.

I did enjoy the historical and political context provided in framing contributions to the world body of poetry.

An exposition of the grind

I found my time listening to this book equally split between sardonic amusement at the modern human experience and regretful sadness. The familiarity with which the worker experience is described seemed an apparent critique of capitalism. Though I can see how one’s individual experiences with work would greatly impact that conclusion. Overall highly recommend.

Captivating, wonderful, unpredictable stories

A captivating collection of stories from the rich literary culture of Bengal. These stories will make you laugh and leave you with your mouth open all while giving a glimpse of Bengali people and culture at a variety of points in history. Wildly entertaining and entrancing. Great for road trips. 10/10 recommend.

I did not expect this book to resonate the way it did. I felt like Julia Cameron was peering into my soul. Required reading for any aspiring artist. And any artist not yet brave enough to call themself aspiring.

If you have ever “dieted”, this is a must read

Dr. Greger never disappoints with his very well researched and honest recommendations for health. There is a moment in the book when he says something along the lines of “the healthiest foods are the least profitable”. It’s time all people but Americans especially take their health into their own hands through a plant-based, whole foods diet. If you don’t readily agree with that statement, this book will give you all the rationale and motivation you need to get started.
