DeMille's Gold Coast & Gate House are among THE BEST of the 1,000+ Audibles I've listened to over 10+ years. This one falls FAR short of those. Nelson seems to be "mailing them in" at this point in his career. .... very sophomoric with lots of gratuitous sex talk. Had to be difficult for the Superb Scott Brick to make it thru.

CJ misfired on this one ...

I've read every Joe & Nate Adventure and recommended them to many. This one was "a clunker". It was the first Joe PIckett since the Highly Controversial casting of Nate for the TV series. I chose NOT to watch the TV series.
It seems like CJ was trying way too hard to somehow appease the entire political spectrum which is impossible in these troubling times. From the previous book I was looking forward to Nate getting his revenge ... which amounted to five minutes at the end of the book !!!
Maybe "Governor Spencer Rulon" will grant CJ a pardon on this misfire ??

There are at least two popular Robin Hood series available on Audible ... this one and The Outlaw Chronicles by Angus Donald. I strongly recommend BOTH. Anyone at all familiar with the Robin Hood Legend knows it doesn't end well ... McKay does a terrific job with this ... I was emotional over the last 20 minutes.
If you are a Robin Hood purist (are there such?) ... Be Warned ... McKay takes some liberties with certain aspects of it ... but it works fine. Be advised those were brutal times and a hard life in England in the early 1300s. There is blood and gore ...

I listen to all the top authors in the "action-thriller-spec ops guy" genre and have for years. I had listened to Jack Carr's two previous books and recall "I liked them" as I do most of my Audible library ... of over 1,200 titles). - But THIS ONE - Savage Son Is SPECIAL.
Sure, there is "a plot/character formula" within every genre and there is to this one ... Savage Son somehow Hits A Homer in every respect. Yes... IT IS VIOLENT. If you like the Thriler genre you won't mind.
Ray Porter was - as always - PERFECT for the narrator. AND... despite a sinister element with The White House... there is NO "political leaning" from Jack Carr AT ALL. Thank You Jack!

These days every publicist compares their literary creation to "Reacher" ... Dirk Pitt ... Mitch Rapp - all of whom are well-known outstanding characters.
Mike Rothman's Levi Yoder is "the next Evan Smoak / "Orphan X" by Gregg Hurwitz. That is as high a compliment as I can pay.
If you enjoy "Orphan X" with his gimmicks and coterie of specialists he calls upon ... then you will Love LEVI YODER. Mike assures me that LEVI #3 is on its way. Meanwhile read Perimeter (Levi #1) and this one. Trust me... you will enjoy it!

I live in Raleigh NC so I'm very familiar with Tony Tata's career over the past 15 years. Big fan of the Jake Mahegan series, Jake is certainly in the pantheon of Mitch Rapp, Scott Horvath, Dewey Andreas and the other 8-10 Superstars of Spec Ops Action Fiction.
I assume most Tata fans share Tony and my "side of the aisle" politically. Those who don't... ain't gonna care for this story AT ALL. As several reviews indicate. I LOVED IT and will be recommending it on my website and to my FB / Twitter friends.
I suggest to fully appreciate "Jake". (and "Cassie").. it would be helpful to read earlier Jake adventures before tackling this one.

The "Most Good" Matt Royal Adventure Yet!

So far I've audibled six Matt Royal adventures. All have been good. This one - Bitter Legacy - was - IMO - the Most Good one yet.
My favorite line... during the incident at the biker bar ... "... Jock's friends had arrived" - I do love characters that have "Deadly Sidekicks". Jock certainly qualifies.
I appreciate that "Matt Royal" is a product of the John D. MacDonald Travis McGee genre of heroic "Florida boat bums". Thats just fine with me. Please keep'em coming Mr Griffin.

Every new book is NOT "the Next Reacher / Rapp"...

Not every new action/terrorist author/character is "the next Reacher / Rapp blah blah" .... THIS ONE is pretty darn close. I really enjoyed this one - the narrator is fine - NOT Ray Porter or Joe Barrett - but fine. Yeah, there are a lot of chapters but so what?
I see there is a Book #2. If it is nearly this good, I'll be ready for #3.
