Historia
When it comes to same-sex relationships, this book by Karen Keen contains the most thoughtful, balanced, biblically grounded discussion you’re likely to encounter anywhere. With pastoral sensitivity and respect for biblical authority, Keen breaks through current stalemates in the debate surrounding faith and sexual identity.

Wonderful and Thought-Provoking
Revisado: 10-28-22
This is an excellent book for those questioning a Gay-affirming Christian view. It doesn’t try to cover the usual “Clobber Passages” and instead goes discusses the different precedents in The Bible and Church history that would allow to a Christian and Church acceptance of same-sex relationships and marriage.
It’s truly an underrated book in this genre, and I’m so happy I’ve listened to it!

Historia
For young Peony, betrothed to a suitor she has never met, lyrics from The Peony Pavilion mirror her own longings. In the garden of the Chen Family Villa, amid the scent of ginger, green tea, and jasmine, a small theatrical troupe is performing scenes from this epic opera, a live spectacle few females have ever seen. Like the heroine in the drama, Peony is the cloistered daughter of a wealthy family, trapped like a good-luck cricket in a bamboo-and-lacquer cage.

Pretty Good!
Revisado: 07-14-22
Like Lisa See’s other works, this story is rich in historical detail and paints a vivid picture of life in China. This story takes a fantastical turn about halfway through, however, and is difficult to predict the outcome. I enjoyed most of the story despite the seemingly meandering plot.

Historia
Lirael lost one of her hands in the binding of Orannis, but now she has a new hand, one of gilded steel and Charter Magic. On a dangerous journey, Lirael returns to her childhood home, the Clayr's Glacier, where she was once a Second Assistant Librarian. There a young woman from the distant North brings her a message from her long-dead mother, Arielle. It is a warning about the Witch with No Face. But who is the Witch, and what is she planning?

Great Story, Odd Narration
Revisado: 02-13-21
The Goldenhand story is a great addition to and continuation of the Sabriel series. I really enjoyed listening to Nix’s further characterization of Nick.
Unfortunately, it was challenging for me to listen to narrator Heather Wilds’ method of voice acting. Her variation of accents and tones were great for each of the different characters’ dialogue. However, she annoyingly (and almost solely) uses the same falling intonation for every sentence; every action that takes place has no more or less importance than the next. This nearly prevented me from feeling horror, revulsion, humor, or any other feeling, and rather made everything that happens feel mundane. Her performance is only a half step above having Siri on my iPhone read a book for me. It’s unfortunate Tim Curry couldn’t have narrated this book too!
