Historia
The white power movement in America wants a revolution. It has declared all-out war against the federal government and its agents, and has carried out - with military precision - an escalating campaign of terror against the American public. In Bring the War Home, Kathleen Belew gives us the first full history of the movement that consolidated in the 1970s and 1980s around a potent sense of betrayal in the Vietnam War and made tragic headlines in the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building.

This is a book that if I could do it over again, would probably read, rather than listen to, because there are a lot of dates, names, abbreviations, and locations involved. I think in order to get the most of this book, you should read with your eyes, and maybe even a map, for reference.
Other than that minor point, I am very glad to have read this book, despite it being a profoundly unpleasant experience. The author carefully dissects the white power movement, its relationship to the wars we fight, and how it benefits from our misunderstanding and underestimation of it. This book is an important challenge to anyone who understands American politics in terms of intellectual abstractions and debate, and ignores the role of bloody violence in shaping our history.

Historia
With extraordinary access to the West Wing, Michael Wolff reveals what happened behind-the-scenes in the first nine months of the most controversial presidency of our time in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Since Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, the country—and the world—has witnessed a stormy, outrageous, and absolutely mesmerizing presidential term that reflects the volatility and fierceness of the man elected Commander-in-Chief.

Any additional comments?
Compelling, informative, nauseating. It was nice to hear a more fleshed-out theory of how this white house works, as a break from the million-and-one takes you get by reading news articles.
Another good reason to read this book is to look back on the past year, and just how many ridiculous, unconscionable, embarrassing things have come out of this presidency in that time. With some new catastrophe happening every day, you can really lose your perspective.
Now that I write this, though, I do wonder about the things that didn't get any mention, like Puerto Rico, or the California wildfires. Was this an oversight on the author's part, or were these events so unimportant to the President and his staff that they didn't register anything worth writing about? Maybe an interviewer will ask the author, as there's no way of knowing from this text.

Historia
Bruno Bettelheim was one of the great child psychologists of the twentieth century and perhaps none of his books has been more influential than this revelatory study of fairy tales and their universal importance in understanding childhood development. Analyzing a wide range of traditional stories, Bettelheim shows how the fantastical, sometimes cruel, but always deeply significant narrative strands of the classic fairy tales can aid in our greatest human task, that of finding meaning for one's life.

Would you listen to The Uses of Enchantment again? Why?
Maybe, but only to the beginning chapters which outline his theory and method.
Any additional comments?
This book makes an eloquent case for parents to be aware of and to respect the differences between the mental life of children and adults, and provides a method for using fairy tales as a means of giving children a safe setting to explore their fantasies and fears.
Just be warned that it gets really, really hardcore Freudian toward the end, particularly in his analysis of Cinderella. Honestly just skip that chapter unless you want a long explanation of how everything in the story is a symbol for penises and vaginas.
