I enjoyed this gothic tale very much, except for the narration. It was very difficult to understand. Only Rosa's parts were easy to listen to.

Ivy's story
Revisado: 11-14-22
Kellyn Roth has done it again. I thought I couldn't love a book more than The Dressmaker's Secret. And then comes this gem.
I love this story so much. Ivy shines brightly in this book as she gets her chance to show that she's not "broken" or "simple".
She's so full of love, and her sweet innocence endears her to others- even the hardened Violet.
I look forward to more books by Ms. Roth.
I love this narrator!

Emotional story
Revisado: 11-14-22
I was not expecting this book to grab me and shake me the way it did.
So many emotions. I don't think a book has ever pulled me in so many different directions.
I am so glad I read it even though it was sad.
Still love Peter. Still don't like Riley. Alice and Violet need a proper slap. Multiple slaps.
Lots of tough subject matter in this one, but handled very well.
I will definitely continue reading the series.

She’s willing to do anything to follow her plan. Debutante Alice Knight is ready for her first social season in London. She’s determined to impress society and her mother with an affluent match, at last escaping her past and embracing a future of her own making. Peter Strauss, an American reporter visiting England, isn’t exactly what Alice had in mind. However, his friendship proves invaluable as Alice faces the challenges of her debut. Almost immediately, she attracts the attention of a well-born gentleman - perfect, save for the simple fact that he’s not a Christian.

Revisado: 10-04-22
I love this narrator so much. She's great at distinguishing voices and different accents.
Alice Knight's debut is here. She has an exciting and memorable first season and seems to be perfectly matched to a gentleman suitor right away. Or... Maybe not.
Gibson Ashfield pursues Alice in a courtship that is headed for marriage. Alice doesn't seem that interested in him. She just wants to get married.
American journalist Peter Strauss is - well - nearly perfect. I loved watching his friendship with Alice bloom and blossom. He's a true gentleman; the kind of fellow every man and woman needs in their lives. I can't wait to continue the series.

Revisado: 10-04-22
I didn't think I could love Ivy Knight more. The love she shows for others is so pure. I really enjoyed how Ivy grew mentally and spiritually. There is nothing "simple" about this dear young lady.
I just love Violet's Aunt Daphne. She's a hoot. I highly recommend the audiobook as her voice, and everyone else's voices, really shine. However, I often struggled with the brogue accents!
I look forward to continuing the series. Lucky for me there are quite a few more books planned for Alice and Ivy.

This is a solid, well-written Christian historical fiction novel by Kellyn Roth. The time period and setting were so clear as I read. This book is full of lovable characters with unique and endearing qualities. There were a couple of twists I didn't see coming, and I appreciated the surprise factor.
Tough subject matter was dealt with delicately.
This book is full of love, encouragement, and compassion.
I plan to reread this book.

Revisado: 05-05-20
This is a short audiobook great for the whole family at Christmas or anytime. It's a family oriented tale I wouldn't hesitate to share with all ages. This story follows three kids and the discovery of a mysterious Christmas tree in a place that it shouldn't be possible for it to be. Give it a listen to find out why it's there! Another great narrator:)
