Historia
When children go missing and the humans have no leads, I'm the one they call. I am their last hope for bringing home the lost ones. I salvage what they cannot. My name is Rylee, and I am a Tracker. O'Shea is AWOL, and tracking him is proving to be harder than I expected. Not to mention the small fact that I have the Beast of Bodmin Moor chasing me across Europe in a race against the odds, with my life as the prize.

Historia
In lyric, accessible prose, Carlo Rovelli invites us to consider questions about the nature of time that continue to puzzle physicists and philosophers alike. For most listeners, this is unfamiliar terrain. We all experience time, but the more scientists learn about it, the more mysterious it appears. We think of it as uniform and universal, moving steadily from past to future, measured by clocks. Rovelli tears down these assumptions one by one, revealing a strange universe where, at the most fundamental level, time disappears.

Physics and poetry
Revisado: 04-17-21
One can be both a physicist and a poet, like the author. But a book cannot be both a book of poetry and a book on physics for the layperson. I don’t recommend this book to anyone who does not have at least a bachelor’s degree in physics.

Historia
>In July of 1923, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple travels to Henley-on-Thames to visit her aunt and uncle, as well as to work on her latest writing assignment: covering the Henley Royal Regatta for an American magazine. Daisy plans a simple trip researching her article, enjoying the races, and, come the weekend, having a pleasant time with her fiancé, Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard. But the tensions between the Ambrose team's coxswain, Horace Bott - a shopkeeper's son and scholarship student at Oxford - and rower Basil DeLancey - the younger son of an earl and all-around bounder - are constantly threatening to erupt into violence.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 04-09-21
I’m fine with not getting a British actor to read a story set in England. I’m even willing to overlook the mispronunciation of British words or expressions. But this reader gets even basic words, common to American English, wrong. She’s really, really awful. It’s pronounced DEF-er-ence, not de-FERR-ence. Sheesh. And that’s just one example. There are plenty of clinkers in this one. Just do yourself a favor and read the books narrated by Chiaromonte, rather than listening to the audiobook.

To be fair, I only listen to the books in this series that are free with my Audible account. They make excellent books to sleep to as the narrator’s voice is pleasing, and I have absolutely no interest in the characters or action to keep me awake.

Historia
A body in the back of a taxi begins an elegantly constructed mystery, perhaps the finest of Marsh’s 1930s novels. The season had begun. Débutantes and chaperones were planning their luncheons, teas, dinners, balls. And the blackmailer was planning his strategies, stalking his next victim. But Chief Detective Inspector Roderick Alleyn knew that something was up. He had already planted his friend, Lord Robert Gospell, at the scene. But someone else got there first....

Dreadful sound quality
Revisado: 08-03-19
At times tinny to the point of sounding like an old-time radio broadcast, I suspect this recording was cobbled together from two different readings. I do not recommend this audiobook, even though the mystery itself was good. Save your money and read the book instead.

Now, the team must find a 'suspect' who can bend space and time and alter memory itself. And they will kill again.

Pleasantly surprised
Revisado: 02-27-18
I liked this more than I thought I would. Much grittier than the Peter Blake series, and it did manage to give me one horrific nightmare.
I thought the narrator was fine. I listen to a lot of audiobooks read by English actors, so perhaps I’m more used to the accents. The only two voices I had difficulty distinguishing were that of Sefton and Costain.

Not unabridged
Revisado: 11-11-17
Despite the claims in the teaser, this collection is most definitely abridged. The main reason I bought this audiobook was so that I could listen to “Bertie Changes His Mind.” Nope. Not in this recording, even though it is one of the stories in the printed collection. Further, the order of the stories were chopped and changed to the extent that Bertie must have been able to teleport from NYC to London and back again via the old Indian fakir bit he’s always going on about.
It’s disgraceful that Audible advertises this as an unabridged recording, and then uses reviews of the print version from Amazon to sell it.

Not worthy of its hype
Revisado: 10-20-17
I sincerely regret wasting a credit on this. Some liken it to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. That’s an insult to Douglas Adams. Hitchhiker’s was funny and intelligent. Starship Grifters is merely puerile. Adolescent boys will think it the last word in humor; all others should move on.

A fantasy, not a romance
Revisado: 07-22-17
As my title suggests, I feel that this is a fantasy novel, with only minor romantic elements. Shinn's world-building is truly phenomenal, on a par with Sanderson and Novik. Romances - and, really, any other genre of fiction except sf - do not have that level of care put into them. It is no more a romance than the first novel in the Vorkosigan saga.
I do agree with at least one other reviewer that certain aspects felt unfinished. Although the arc of the protagonist was satisfactorily concluded, the fate of some secondary characters was left up in the air.
Nevertheless, I am sufficiently impressed with the author's skill in world-building and storytelling that I am eager to read more in this service.

Beautiful
Revisado: 07-16-17
Naomi Novik may not be the most prolific fantasy writer, but she's very likely the best. This novel pulled me into its world (I think it's set in the latter years of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) as if it were shooting up roots to entangle me. All the characters were REAL. None of them were stock characters, trotted onto the page to advance the plot.
Some readers disliked the Eastern European accent of the narrator, but it was essential. This story is not set in the English speaking world. Having it read in RP English or its American equivalent would have been more jarring to me. It would have destroyed the aura of otherness about the story.
