Interesting History from Native American POV
Revisado: 04-10-25
Great listen. Excellent historical narrative from POV of a Native American caught between two worlds. More examples of the whitetrocities committed throughout American history.

Historia
Born to a poor couple who were tenant farmers on a plantation in Mississippi, Anne Moody lived through some of the most dangerous days of the pre-civil rights era in the South. The week before she began high school came the news of Emmet Till's lynching. Before then, she had "known the fear of hunger, hell, and the Devil. But now there was…the fear of being killed just because I was black." In that moment was born the passion for freedom and justice that would change her life.

Hard Necessary Truths of American History
Revisado: 02-01-25
A captivating story of a child growing up in the Jim Crow south and her growth into a young woman deep in the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s.
These important stories of the lived brutal and hostile experiences of Black Americans were faced with strength, determination & courage. The struggle to resist and fight systemic racism, the myth of white superiority and the weight of the artificial American caste system fully backed by its privileged citizens, government officials and law enforcement is a tremendous and important part of our history that must never be forgotten.
This is a highly recommended read for all interested in learning American history not white washed in fairytale fantasies of its greatness.

Historia
With their Safe Zone overrun by the undead, taking refuge in the mountains seems like the safest bet for Rose, Tom, and the other survivors. There's one catch, however—between last spring's human exodus and a neighboring group's stockpiles, there's no food left to scavenge. They know to be wary of people and zombies, but a new adversary proves itself just as relentless—hunger. Supplies are slim in the wilderness, and living off the land is easier said than done. As winter sets in, and their food dwindles to nothing, they discover how far they'll go to save the ones they love.

Not As Riveting
Revisado: 10-19-24
The first book of The Cascadia Series had me thinking it might be my favorite Sarah Lyons Fleming series, but with this 3rd installation I must sadly admit it’s my least favorite.
I still think Sarah Lyons Fleming is one of best writers in the post-apocalyptic genre based on Until the End of the World and The City series. Her character development and storylines are still stellar, but my enthusiasm for The Cascadia Series has weaned with each installment.
I’m just not getting invested in the characters as much as the earlier series. I don’t think I’ll invest the time in the 4th installment. I look forward to something new from this author.

Historia
All Denny Malone wants is to be a good cop. He is “the King of Manhattan North,” a, highly decorated NYPD detective sergeant and the real leader of “Da Force.” Malone and his crew are the smartest, the toughest, the quickest, the bravest, and the baddest, an elite special unit given unrestricted authority to wage war on gangs, drugs and guns. Every day and every night for the eighteen years he’s spent on the Job, Malone has served on the front lines, witnessing the hurt, the dead, the victims, the perps.

Epic!
Revisado: 07-27-24
Don Winslow is a masterful story teller and he does it again! The story of Denny Malone, crooked NYPD detective, immediately grabs you and takes you on a wild, tumultuous, gripping, white-knuckled ride.
I love it when an author develops a protagonist with seeming despicable characteristics and makes you grow to like (dear I say "love") them, root them on, cheer for their success.
Equally masterful is Dion Graham's narration. Excellence all the way around.

Revisado: 05-01-24
Okay the headline tells you what you get with this series. I thought it was pretty good, but now that I’ve listened to all 5 I see that the story line is pretty much the same throughout. Change names, slightly alter the circumstances and you have the next book. I wouldn’t recommend more than one audiobook in this series, unless they’re free and you have the time.

Revisado: 02-08-24
All-time favorite what???? Series, audiobook series, audio narration, main character, supporting characters - YES, YES & YES!
Greg Hurwitz is masterful!!! I can sing the praises of the Orphan X (Evan Smoak) series enough!!! Each installation is better than the last!!!
I love the growth and reflection of Evan Smoak, as well as his quirks and idiosyncrasies. Evan is the evolving assassin you can’t help but love!! I’m enjoying his developing family and community and I'm so happy for the continued roles of Joey and Candy.
Greg Hurwitz, Orphan X is top of my favorite assassin series, right up there with Barry Eisler's John Rain series. Please keep them coming!!!

Another Heart Warmer by CRH
Revisado: 01-31-24
I enjoy Catherine Ryan Hyde’s novels and this one didn’t disappoint. The story of little Remy was touching, and the novel supported good foster care experiences. Certainly, Remy’s thought processes were far advanced for a boy his age but I guess it was necessary for the story development.
I don’t understand comments stating authors having some “agenda” simply because they wrote a story that takes place during COVID and masks and vaccines are mentioned. COVID was and still is real and it is a part of world history. So just because an author doesn’t shy away from addressing this period in our history, does not mean they’re supporting some hidden agenda.
Another enjoyable listen which I highly recommend.

Sweet Story with Likable Sensible Characters
Revisado: 01-25-24
This was a good, heartwarming story with great character development. The author was able to create a group of likeable characters with realistic flaws facing realistic life obstacles. What I appreciated most is the characters had loving hearts, even the most flawed of the bunch. I connected and felt the most for the teenaged son, Cooper. The mother, Luna, is raising two good hearted kids in this novel.
If you’re against sensible logical humans then you may agree with another review calling out unnecessary “political stereotypes,” but there’s nothing political or stereotypical about taking necessary steps to protect your loved ones and others during a pandemic.
I enjoyed this first novel/audiobook by Katrina Kittle and look forward to more from this author.

When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson. Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer. Boy, was I wrong.

Mediocre Story, Terrible Male Narrator
Revisado: 01-24-24
I'm surprised this story was mediocre at best, because other Meghan Quinn novels have been above average. The male narrator was terrible, so much so that it seriously distracted further from the story. I would only recommend this audiobook if it's free and you have time on your hands.
