Historia
London’s bright young things are partying, Soho’s nightlife is buzzing, and Augusta Peel is hiding in her basement. She has a reason to hide there: it’s home to her Bloomsbury workshop where she repairs old, neglected books. After a busy time during the war, all Augusta wants is peace and quiet. But events take a turn when Augusta agrees to chaperone nineteen-year-old Harriet Jones on a date. Failing to get her home on time, she ends up in a riotous nightclub. She can’t imagine the evening getting much worse when the police raid it. But then the murder happens.

This is an easy listen with engaging characters. It is not as complex as some mystery novels, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I cannot finish this book...
Revisado: 02-26-19
I have completely lost interest in this book. The two prequels held my attention and imagination well enough, but the character development (or lack thereof) and dialogue along with a snail-paced plot and scattered perspectives has caused my attention to wander continuously. I was shocked to see that I have already managed to play 3/4 of the book. I find myself hoping that several of the main characters will just die so I don't have to hear their self justifications any longer. There also seems to be absolutely no climax or turning point in sight. And maybe there is none, but without killing off or enslaving half or more of the characters I don't see how this book will end in any sort of convincing or interesting way. What a disappointment after two mostly interesting books. I don't even want to know how it ends.

Historia
Of especially naughty children, it is sometimes said: “They must have been raised by wolves.” The Incorrigible children actually were. Discovered in the forests of Ashton Place, the Incorrigibles are no ordinary children: Alexander keeps his siblings in line with gentle nips; Cassiopeia has a bark that is (usually) worse than her bite; and Beowulf is alarmingly adept at chasing squirrels.

annoying characterization
Revisado: 12-30-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The book itself is a fun work for youth.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katherine Kellgren?
Somebody who would not have howled nearly as much. It was grating on my nerves from the first, but it became intolerable. I switched to kindle versions for the next books in the series and I found that there was not nearly as much howling or whining written into the text itself and that it was the interpretation of the narrator.
Do you think The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, there is still much left unfinished after the third installment.

Historia
At Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast, a young Victorian amateur palaentologist, Charles Smithson, is struck by a solitary figure standing at the far end of the Cobb, staring out to sea. It is Sarah Woodruff, known to the locals as 'poor Tragedy' since her apparent liaison with a French sailor who has since deserted her. Although Charles is already engaged to a young heiress, he is immediately beguiled and eventually infatuated with Sarah.

One star book, but a good reading performance
Revisado: 12-30-12
What would have made The French Lieutenant's Woman better?
If the author had stuck to the story and dropped his increasingly interrupting asides about the victorian period relative to his perspective when he was about to retell the story from another angle. What I originally thought would be a creative read, became a tedious listen and toward the end, I found myself completely tuned out during his diatribes and needed to rewind when I finally tuned back in to discover that the story had finally continued.
Has The French Lieutenant's Woman turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, only from this author.
What does Paul Shelley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I would have put the book down by halfway through as the author's interruptions became worse and worse as the book progressed, but the narrator was an engaging reader for me. I don't understand how he managed to read such a tedious book so well.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
A good pair of scissors and a hard copy would redeem it for me.
Any additional comments?
I hate to give negative reviews and I can even enjoy an authors interference in a plot line, but this book was excessive.
