Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Tough story
Revisado: 11-09-24
I like the plain language and childhood challenges that he experienced. He certainly had many odds against him but managed to do very well. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon but a splintered spoon. I don’t see any political insights between him and Trump except today when he was elected to be the Vice President of the United States. He came from nothing and made something of himself. I enjoyed the book.

Historia
In this shocking memoir, a former FBI informant reveals what he learned from successfully infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan in the backwoods of the Sunshine State, uncovering details about the hate group’s structure and its modern far-right spinoffs which are operating to achieve the same goal: inciting a second civil war by whatever violent means necessary.

Informative and politically motivated
Revisado: 08-21-24
Being a retired law enforcement officer and criminal justice tenured professor I found the book very interesting. It was informative about how the author infiltrated the KKK and the other various of white supremists that we should be aware of. There were a few loose ends that needed further exploration, the part about where you thought your mother in law may have abused your daughter. You had your suspicions but put it on the Sheriff's department. You claimed to be for the under dog but you certainly was full of yourself. Moving your family around. What did you get paid. Your whole life portrayed was based on lies you told to infiltrate these grouos.Maybe that's how operatives work.
Lastly, had I known you had a political agenda I never would have read your book. I should have known when I watched your interview with a well known news anchor on ABC
I am an independent and surprised how you went after one particular candidate who I won't vote for anyway.
Not Happy to recommend.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

I read this a few weeks after my mother passed away. The book covers so many aspects of the grieving process and what to expect and the more importantly, it takes time.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Historia
When the American Film Institute assembled a list of its top 100 actors, one of the top 10 was James Cagney, an actor whose acting and dancing talents spawned a career that spanned over five decades and once compelled Orson Welles to call him "maybe the greatest actor to ever appear in front of a camera." Ultimately it was portraying tough guys and gangsters in the 1930s that turned Cagney into a massive star, the kinds of roles he was born to play after growing up rough in Manhattan at the turn of the 20th century.
