Historia
Many books, fiction and nonfiction alike, purport to probe the inner workings of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Many attempt to create spine-tingling suspense or allege that America's civilian spy operation has run amok and been infested with rogues and criminals. But this book is different. In fact it’s a unique straightforward, honest, surprisingly captivating memoir by one of the CIA's most well-known and honored career officers.

Nice story about a CIA officer
Revisado: 05-19-23
Nice story from an actual CIA officer from his early days to his retirement. Interesting to hear about his early injuries and his recovery. Juggling family life while being stationed overseas. I did not really like some of the production. I think the narrator "overdid it" when trying the different voices. A good read.

Entertaining

This is an entertaining book. But, just not factually believable. I did enjoy it after watching the movie years ago. Afterwards I did a little research and in my mind it is more fictional than factual.

Historia
On August 27, 2010, three CIA officers ask for a private meeting with CIA Director Leon Panetta. During that secret session, they tell Panetta that agents have tracked a courier with deep Al Qaeda ties to a three-story house at the end of a dead-end street in Abbottabad, Pakistan. But they say it’s more than a house—it’s a heavily protected fortress. No one in the meeting says the name bin Laden. They don’t have to. Everyone understands that finally, after nearly a decade, maybe, just maybe, they’ve found the world’s most wanted man.

Good book, but....
Revisado: 10-16-21
This is a good book, but it has some flaws. I think it is factual for the most part. Very interesting review of the events of the bin laden raid. I know a lot of research went into it.
I didn't appreciate all of Wallace's political spin, but I did expect it. The biggest complain is that one of the story lines has nothing to do with the hunt for bin laden. This part of the book was just filler that should have ended up the editor's floor, had nothing to do with the mission.

Just not very good
Revisado: 08-11-21
This book is "just not very good". It is typical of recent John Grisham works. Where is the suspense, the surprise ending, etc.? I got spoiled on THE PARTNER, THE LAST JUROR, THE RUNAWAY JURY.
*** Spoiler Alert ***
The book opens with a bang. Then it is much ado about nothing. In the end the two separate legal matters of the defendant and then the civil suit just end unresolved. I was really disappointed!

Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

Historia
In January 2007 two young stoners from Miami Beach - one a ninth-grade dropout, the other a licensed masseur - won a $300 million Department of Defense contract to supply ammunition to the Afghanistan military. Incredibly, instead of fulfilling the order with high-quality arms, Efraim Diveroli and David Packouz - the dudes - bought cheap Communist-style surplus ammunition from Balkan gunrunners.

Good story, bad performance
Revisado: 02-04-21
I liked the movie War Dogs, so I wanted to give the book a try. This book is a good story about how some young guys won, and tried to fulfill a big contract for the US military. It shows the bureaucracy and red tape of our government. I got tired of the constant reference to the "dudes" being dope heads. The author just will not shut up about that aspect of these guys. But the worst part was the narrator. When he is reading the book he is OK, but when he tries to perform as Efraim, David, or Alex he is terrible. Just read the darn book! Otherwise, yes I liked it.

Great Book, terrible performance
Revisado: 09-17-20
The Dumas masterpiece is as great as ever. The performance was terrible, must have had zero editing. Narrator makes mistakes, false starts, repeats words, background noise; very irritating and disappointing. Do yourself a huge favor and choose a different recording of this classic.
