Historia
Thomas Bradshaw and Tonie Swann are experiencing the classic symptoms of marriage in its middle years: comfortable house, happy enough daughter, and an eerie sense that life might be happening elsewhere. Then Tonie accepts a big promotion at work and Thomas agrees to become a stay-at-home dad. While Thomas is suddenly faced with the daily silence of an empty house, Tonie finds herself alive to previously unimagined possibilities. And at the head of the family, the aging Bradshaw parents continue their marital dynamic of bickering and petty undermining.

Brilliant but tedious
Revisado: 12-14-21
Amazing deep dive into the character’s lives and brilliant writing but the characters are maddeningly dull. For a more moving and succinct depiction of domestic disengagement I like Ghost in This House sung by Alison Krauss

Historia
Mysterious, funny, insightful, and heartbreaking, these are tales of expatriates and exiles, wise children and straying saints. They compose a secret history, both intimate and panoramic, of modern times, and offer a kaleidoscopic impression of the world within a world that is Paris.

The readers ruin it for me
Revisado: 09-11-21
I just thought the readers were very annoying. The stories I found uninteresting. Maybe I’m missing something

Historia
When Lissa Yellow Bird was released from prison in 2009, she found her home, the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota, transformed by the Bakken oil boom. In her absence, the landscape had been altered beyond recognition, her tribal government swayed by corporate interests, and her community burdened by a surge in violence and addiction. Three years later, when Lissa learned that a young white oil worker, Kristopher “KC” Clarke, had disappeared from his reservation worksite, she became particularly concerned. No one knew where Clarke had gone.

Remarkable portrait
Revisado: 10-11-20
Remarkable portrait of a Native American woman and chronicle of a murder investigation against the backdrop of the awful fracking boom and its effects on her Nation. At times the detail seems excessive but by the end you feel you’ve experienced something.

Historia
In 1930, two novice paddlers - Eric Sevareid and Walter C. Port - launched a secondhand 18-foot canvas canoe from the Minnesota River at Fort Snelling for an ambitious summer-long journey from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay. Without benefit of radio, motor or good maps, the teenagers made their way over 2,250 miles of rivers, lakes, and difficult portages.

Enjoyable nonfiction. Extraordinary story
Revisado: 02-02-20
Amazing canoe odyssey from Minnesota to Hudson Bay by two 20-somethings in the 1930s (I think). By legendary journalist Eric Sevareid. Straitforward compelling narrative.
