I always love Sandra Brown, but this one wasn’t one of her better efforts. The male & female leads were written well, and their attraction progressed in a realistic way. However, I would summarize the story as romantic suspense, searching for some suspense. The whole Blood Moon theory didn’t make logical sense, it wasn’t developed well and the ending was very weak & bland. The villain was so meek, that he didn’t seem much of a villain.

This is an excellent fast paced, taut thriller, wrapped in a satisfying romance. It highlights the wonderful relationship in 3 generations of strong, determined and successful women. The narrator is outstanding…her ability to create distinct and realistic voices for each of the characters is superb.

Unrealistic and Boring

The heroine is celibate for 9 years, while she watches as the hero she is pining for, has multiple short term relationships during this same time, but she doesn’t say anything. She is written as too naive to be believable. And that makes for a very boring storyline.

The heroine is immature, self-absorbed, whiny. She is a 34 year old divorce attorney who talks like an immature 15 year old high school girl. She also has a mean streak…her BF of 2 years Dennis,..she treats him horribly, especially her demands for an engagement. The heroine is unlikeable and very demanding. She tells everyone what to do….except for herself. She should have been in therapy for her abandonment issues, instead of taking out her fears, anxiety and doubts on others.

Not Much Romance

There is really not much focus on romance, Rather, the book is centered around the sadistic villain and how he affects the heroine. The fire events, the brutal rape and then burning the victim(s) alive…are just too gruesome and brutal. The violence is extremely sadistic. I am a Nora Roberts fan, but this is one book which I can’t recommend and which I will never listen to again.

The male narrator did not interpret the hero correctly…his voice became irritating at times. Especially when he pronounced the heroine’s name, Eloise..I am so glad I am finished and don’t ever have to hear him say “Elle-ohhhh-weeeeeeez” again.Who chooses the narrators? I have been stunned at just how inadequate some narrators are in the world of audiobooks. A good narrator can enhance the book, while a bad narrator can spoil what is a good book.
