Gave up halfway
Revisado: 05-21-24
Loved the concept, enjoyed the movie, quit reading halfway. Not a professional critic but as an avid reader, I tired of reading irrelevant phrases. I don’t understand the acclaim for the book by experts and many of the reviewers here. Decided life too short to waste more time reading more.

Historia
When Clarence Thomas joined the Supreme Court in 1991, he found with dismay that it was interpreting a very different Constitution from the one the framers had written - the one that had established a federal government manned by the people's own elected representatives, charged with protecting citizens' inborn rights while leaving them free to work out their individual happiness themselves, in their families, communities, and states.

Facts and Opinions
Revisado: 03-15-24
Listen well and separate the facts from opinions. I have just begun my study of the character of Justice Clarence Thomas, and this is the fourth book I have used for that purpose. The man Thomas is smart and manipulative. His writings show his potential affect on our lives and the lives of our children. He’s probably not who you think he is.

Classic encouraging text by Pema Chodron, but I found the accent of the reader distracting and not helpful.

My favorite audible listen so far. I have hundreds in my library. As the end neared, I thought I might start it over. And I expect I will listen again. The speaker is a professor with extensive knowledge and gift of ability to speak like an actor.

Historia
Eastern Europe has long been thought of as the "Other Europe", a region rife with political upheaval, shifting national borders, an astonishing variety of ethnic diversity, and relative isolation from the centers of power in the West. It has also been, and continues to be, pivotal in the course of world events. A History of Eastern Europe offers a sweeping 1,000-year tour with a particular focus on the region's modern history.

Revealing Geography and History
Revisado: 01-02-23
I wanted to know more about the part of the world in which my mother’s parents were born and lived before they emigrated to the United States in early 20th Century before the Great War. There’s a lot covered in this excellent set of lectures. The professor is clear and knowledgeable as well as entertaining. His compassion for the subject and the humanity of the peoples is evident. If you want an overview of Eastern Europe, I recommend this program.

"I'll never forget that night. It was like a romance novel, an old Broadway musical, and a John Wayne western rolled into one. Out for a quick drink with friends, I wasn't looking to meet anyone, let alone a tall, rugged cowboy who lived on a cattle ranch miles away from my cultured, corporate hometown. But before I knew it, I'd been struck with a lightning bolt... and I was completely powerless to stop it."

Hated It -- Could Not Finish
Revisado: 05-04-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I understood there would be some gushing about her "cowboy," but after first few chapters I hopped through more chapters until I could not take it any longer. I thought before Chapter 13 there would be something about transitioning from city woman to country woman and adjustments to cope with.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Nothing by Ms Drummond as writer or narrator.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her voice could have been less shrill and less sounding like excited teenager.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Sparked boredom.
Any additional comments?
Title misleading. I thought the love story was about falling in love with country life . I am sorry I wasted a credit on this book. I admit I did not finish but what I heard was repetitive and immature.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 03-31-15
What disappointed you about Following Sound into Silence?
I was drawn into buying this by what I consider a non-representative selection. I loved it, but could not contend with the rest of what I heard. Stopped listening after third piece. I wish I could return it for a refund.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kailash Bruder’s performances?
NO!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.

I already bought Phase 1. I do not need to listen to eleven minutes of why I should want to buy this product. I am hoping when the "how great Pimsleur is" speech is done, I will finally find the learning (refreshing) of the language to be a good experience.
