Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Bloated history of a validation-seeking engineer
Revisado: 06-30-22
The story doesn't go into the accomplishments of John Houbolt, so he probably didn't get much else done in the way of engineering. An engineer, who makes a career out of complaining about people ignoring his unoriginal idea might make an interesting article, but in order to make a book of it the author tells his family story (all were proud of their stubborness), and writes a few chapters about the highlights of the Apollo program.
Great sound design and good production with interviews, but a tortured biography that tries to make a clearly mediocre engineer into an overlooked key figure of the moonlandings. I wished it was a lot shorter and a bit more honest.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Very ok sequel
Revisado: 12-11-20
Unsurprising and somewhat low-brow adventure in an enjoyably evolving universe. It's entertaining and very role-playingly visual in its delivery. Ray Porter misreads a lot of the scenes in a familiarly awkward way, which is fine as at this point listeners are used to it.

Painfully uninformative
Revisado: 09-23-19
An unbearable collection of fill-in text, unhelpful discriptions and oversimplified examples. You will easily learn more about lean, six sigma etc. by reading a few wikipedia entries. Awful collection of books.

Boring, except for the stupid bits
Revisado: 09-07-19
Bafflingly awful story with unfathomably annoying characters. The framing device is pure torture, the plot is wrought with holes, the characters are only into sex, drugs and gambling, the hero is a woman-beating douchebag who smokes cigarettes in tight and crappily retrofuturistic spaceships, there is practically nothing in the book that would be believable from scientific, psychological or world-building point of view....
It's an awful book.
Sound quality is ok, I guess.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Not really up to hype
Revisado: 09-01-19
Filled with fluent regurgitations of the most famous anecdotes from the escapades of beloved scientists, this collection of snippets from history makes a good attempt at painting a picture of humankinds history in a contemporary nutshell. It's a good read if you aren't already too familiar with the genre.
The book doesn't bring out any new ideas or start new conversations. There are no new viewpoints into current issues, and a lot of the subject matter is considered from a very limited perspective (perfectly ok, since it's a short book on EVERYTHING, and the author recognizes this.)
Nice read, but I can't figure out the massive hype around it.

Historia
In this Audible Original “mini-memoir”, the Academy Award-winning star of Little Miss Sunshine and Argo looks back on his life as a series of philosophical turning points, learning experiences, and a-ha moments. Drawn from a collection of seemingly inexplicable stories and encounters from Arkin's 84 years on this planet, Out of My Mind is a candid, relatable and delightfully irreverent take on how one man went searching for meaning and ended up discovering himself.

Collection of New Age anecdotes.
Revisado: 01-13-19
Painfully embarrassing and cringeworthy tales from the life-long spiritual voyage of a famous actor. It seems the author takes pride in falling for every classic form of woo and psychic trickery he encounters, gullibly embracing every coincidence in his life as a profound display of spiritual guidance. The book lacks any effort to examine events or evaluate claims through reason or any kind of scepticism, and the reader is left helplessly watching from the side as the author takes the stage and proudly declares his unwavering satisfaction in a life where various spiritual professionals have provided him with just the right amount of comfort and pseudo-philosophical buzz for the money. The book seems like a collection of events from Woody Allen movies, told unironically and with the characters never really realizing how badly they have been duped and manipulated. I hope this is not as common a life-story in New York as it seems.

Really nice addition to the culture universe, fleshes out the life in the rimward systems, and gives a bleak tour of selected afterworlds. Not quite as inventive in terms of world building, but a pretty nice selection of adventures!

Max Tegmark leads us on an astonishing journey through past, present and future, and through the physics, astronomy, and mathematics that are the foundation of his work, most particularly his hypothesis that our physical reality is a mathematical structure and his theory of the ultimate multiverse. In a dazzling combination of both popular and groundbreaking science, he not only helps us grasp his often mind-boggling theories, but he also shares with us some of the often surprising triumphs and disappointments that have shaped his life as a scientist.

How will artificial intelligence affect crime, war, justice, jobs, society, and our very sense of being human? The rise of AI has the potential to transform our future more than any other technology - and there's nobody better qualified or situated to explore that future than Max Tegmark, an MIT professor who's helped mainstream research on how to keep AI beneficial.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

The best of the mythologies
Revisado: 05-15-18
Lively characters, funniest stories and best adventures. My favourite of all the mythologies/eposes so far. The Nordic sagas are like the Rick&Morty of national epics.
Loyal to the original stories and tales, the only bad thing about the book was its shortness.
