Probably his best yet!
Revisado: 09-27-11
- Daniel Silva is absolutely one of my favorite authors. This may be his best yet. If you're a fan and are familiar with the excellent cast of characters in his Gabriel Allon series you'll feel right at home. If not, welcome onboard. You'll love them. Since I had listened to all the previous in the series I felt like I was settling down with the team in a new deadly adventure. No politics, no theatrics, well some theatrics, just great story telling.
- The plot is excellent. Intriguing, explosive, and great listening.
- Simon Vance, the narrator does an good job. The different characters have different voices and inflections. You know when each is talking, no complaints.
- Start with "A Death in Venice" and work your way up. You'll get hooked.
- Daniel, start writing. Gabriel is waiting, me too.

Glad it's Over..both the Book and War!
Revisado: 03-10-07
I am normally a fan of Demille, some of his other novels are slick, first rate stories. With Up Country he's packed a 6 hour novella into a 28 hour waste of time. I kept looking at the time remaining on my iPod hoping this never ending story was about too. Paul Brenner, the main character, is so snide, sarcastic and cynical as to be unbelieveable. Scott Bricks narration is right on. Brick can bring the written word to life. Sometimes he's a little over the top but with Up Country does as well as he can with the material given. If you want to experience one of Demille's better works get Night Fall, it's supurb.

Why Iraq? Read This Book!
Revisado: 01-25-05
This book is the most outstanding analysis of the war to date. Easy to follow and easy to listen. I have been a subscriber to Friedman's "Stratfor" geopolitical analysis service for quite some time. Dr. Friedmans book is right on. The book is neither pro nor con regarding the administration. Although he is tough on "Rummy". If you are a Bush hater/progressive don't bother with this book, your mind is made up. If you want to know the background of why we did what we did in Iraq then this book is for you. Get it!

Historia
"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Histoical Novel or Political Hype??
Revisado: 07-29-04
I was enthralled with "The Company" until Littell decided to unload on President Reagan. Up until then the novel was very interesting and intriguing but the complete hammering of the Reagan Presidency made me question how much, if any, of the novel was actually historical or just another fictional work. Don't get me wrong, entertaining it is but factual, if at all......who knows? I would suggest spending $60+ somewhere else.

The first volume of the Liberation Trilogy, An Army at Dawn is history of the highest order - brilliantly researched, rich with new material and surprising insights, the deeply human story of a monumental battle for the future of civilization. "An absolute masterpiece," says Andrew Carroll, author of War Letters, "This book is storytelling - and history - at its most riveting."

A Very well researched Book of Military History
Revisado: 04-26-04
This reading is for the casual observer of military history. It isn't for someone looking for a major in depth review of the Allied struggle in North Africa. It is abridged somewhat too much, even with a 7 plus hour length. If you really want to know the history of events in North Africa my recommendation is to read the book. Having said that, if you want to get an excellent outline of the North Africa campaign get this reading. Audible should offer the unabridged version.

A Great Listen
Revisado: 03-23-04
Interestingly enough, the reviews of this book hit both sides of the street. I really enjoyed the book. No deep thinking, no hidden adjenda, just WOW, what's going to happen next. I think it's an excellent listen. Supurb plot development that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Harlan Coben is noted for his intricate plots. This book is no exception. Get into this book and you'll take the long way home just to hear more.

Historia
In June 1944, the Allies launched a massive amphibious invasion against Nazi-held France. But under the cover of darkness, a new breed of fighting man leapt from airplanes through a bullet-stitched, tracer-lit sky to go behind German lines. These were the Screaming Eagles of the newly formed 101st Airborne Division. Their job was to strike terror into the Nazi defenders, delay reinforcements, and kill any enemy soldiers they met. In the next seven days, the men of the 101st fought some of the most ferocious close-quarter combat in all of World War II.

Revisado: 02-24-04
Currahee is a good quick WWII action packed book. It does not measure up to Burgett's other book "Seven Roads to Hell" but is entertaining. Burgett goes from swearing in to being wounded in an hour and 41 minutes.

Listen with your Left ear.
Revisado: 11-25-03
Marketplace, like most of the NPR programs, has a decidedly left leaning posture. I had a one month subscription and left, sorry, after that. I'm still not sure how they did it, but after listening I continually had the feeling that I wasn't getting the whole story. It may be your cup of tea, but it was a waste of time for me.
