Historia
The Slabaugh family are model Amish farmers, prosperous and hardworking, with four children and a happy extended family. When the parents and an uncle are found dead in their barn, it appears to be a gruesome accident: methane gas asphyxiation caused by a poorly ventilated cesspit. But in the course of a routine autopsy, the coroner discovers that one of the victims suffered a head wound before death—clearly, foul play was involved. But who would want to make orphans of the Slabaughs' children? And is this murder somehow related to a recent string of shocking hate crimes against the Amish?

Revisado: 11-04-24
I cam to this book series from the movie. Loved the first book, enjoyed the second but 3 books in I am tired of constently being reminded of her Amish conflictions i honestly believe she should go back confess and leave the English world her heart is not in it.
Her internal insecurities show us she shouldnt be a cop with a gun and lives in her hands. Yes we want flawed and real charactersbut we want them likeable. maybe theyll make more movies Neve was great and likeable.
Tomisetti deserves better. and the constant drinking and working has her barely better than the criminals.

problematic..
Revisado: 10-22-24
I love the narrator I have no complaints or negative things to say about her wonderful, and I'll look for more of her work.
I came to this from the movie so the changes are very jarring. But I was still very much enjoying this. Enjoying the character development, enjoying Sally and Gillian. I just loved it.
But and this is a very big but. the 2 love interests Both Gillian's and Sally's are very problematic like I stopped problematic. Gillians Ben when she's scared of her feelings and says she doesn't want to see him, he literally becomes obsessed. He's calling every single day. Constantly constantly constantly. He's stalking her. And I don't care how much you're in love with a guy. If you tell him you don't want to see him. You don't want him contacting you. You're not going to be happy about a guy calling all the time or sitting out on your porch until you agree to see him. that is a stalker that is not attractive. It's very very creepy.
Gary, who in my head, I imagine Aidan, Quinn, because that is who plays him in the movie when Sally puts a stop to things in the movie, he takes it well in the book... There's a moment where he thinks he wishes he could grab her and force her until she gives in. Yuck!!!! But we've seen how Gillian being raped by jimmy, multiple times has affected her, and yet the romantic interest for Sally has those thoughts, even though he's not going to do it internally, he has them. I'm sorry you can't come back from that. To stop, that's not romantic, even back in 1995. When this was written, this is not romantic. These love interests are bad men. I was wanting to read the other books, but it's a hard pass for me now.

This one was a bit different but
Revisado: 11-27-23
Previously I have only read the Rizzoli and Isles series which is fantastic. This one was a bit different from the pacing to the story. I think is would have been easier to read than listen because there are just so many characters, there was a time or two I was wondering if I had the right one. But I did enjoy is as well as the outcome. I will definitely continue to try her work. I do feel this may have been an earlier story in her career though.

Thank God this was free.
Revisado: 03-04-23
I guess I am not a fan of this format. The main narrator was great but when it switched into people acting out the scene that's a no for me. Listening to teenagers supposedly making out very much a no for me because I'm in my mid forties. There was a very inappropriate factor that I felt like was happening for me.
I also had a very hard time connecting to the main character. There were portions of the narration that were very difficult, very repetitive, and I know that that is part of her diagnosis because I live with it on a daily basis. But it just made this story drag. I did stop and did not finish.
I made it to chapter 17. And I just couldn't justify spending more time. I don't know that I care who killed Cooper. I don't know that I care if Charlie's life is affected by this. I actually think that with the help of her lawyer, she should have just told the police what they needed to know and went on with her day. I have very little patience for people who make their own problems.
I doubt I will be picking up this author again in the future it will take a long time before I'm willing to try her again.

Historia
After I returned to my small hometown six months ago to attend my estranged grandmother's funeral, I swore I would never go back. That is, until my grandmother's lawyer calls me up. If I don't return to Harmony Island and fulfill my grandmother's stipulations, the generationally owned family inn will be turned over to the state and sold off to the highest bidder—my grandmother's rival and mother to the man who broke my heart, Missy Willis. I'm not sure I'm strong enough to return home, but I also know, I can't let Miss Willis win.

The heroine Shelby is a career helpless victim....
Revisado: 09-25-22
I will start with saying I did not finish I made it 9 chapters in. And every interaction that Shelby had, even just driving down Main Street of the town she grew up in she had to give herself a peptalk that she was strong enough and she could handle it. She could face her past. Every time she responded to her former stepbrother she had to make sure her voice didn't tremble. He is the villian to her... blah blah blah he ruined her relationship.
The Inn broke her. This is one of those weak women it's hard to like. You just wanna tell her to put on he big girl panties or stop playing it the adult work.
The only area that I actually felt For her was her work situation.
I'm trying not to give details but I just don't have a lot of free time. And I can't see myself wasting it finishing the book with the main female lead that is really hard to sympathize and like. To me she came across is very pathetic and being a professional victim. There were also portions that felt repetitive. Every woman when she meets an attractive man feels a bit swoony the way she reacts.
Of the 3 women that have that have been introduced so far. Shelby, Abigail, And Abigail's sister I can't remember her name. They're not very strong women I take that back Abigail seems interesting, and seems to have a bit more grit.
I'm not giving up on this Author but this one wasn't a hit for me. I only have a couple of free hours a week between between 2 full time jobs and a one year old, I will be asking for a refund on this audible credit because I want not finish this.

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

I had quite a few issues with this one.
Revisado: 05-30-20
I loved the Arrowwoods so I had high hope's but I just cant. This girl spends way too much time not knowing her own mind and heart. While the main male character comes on very heavy handed within 6 months of the tragedy that brings her home. it actually disgusts me that he felt it was okay that soon and that she is such a wimp she just cant resist the pull of him. *I vomited a little in my mouth just typing that.
The character I thought was THE guy, he should have been THE guy was actually the guys brother.
The relationship between the two main characters is very juvenile and just uncomfortable.
Mostly she makes decisions for her children that are so wrong it disturbs me. The real life fallout to a secret like that is hard to pretend away for the sake of the story.
As well as the lack of continuity... when ever one of the timeline errors would be mentioned it pulled me right out of the story.
At 1 point she says that her and Zach have been separated for 17 years and in another place they say 16 years. Yet her children are supposed to be 11 years old and she's supposed to be 29 years old but Zach was supposed to have left her in her 1st year of college and which she would have been 18 years old so in theory she should be 36 where did this 7 years disappeared to?
I purchased the whole series at once and now I'm really angry with myself because i barely was able to finish this book I ended up not liking either of the 2 main characters.
I think I'm gonna step away for a while before a try the 2nd book.
