I find it hard to follow 17-year-old Kalynn in the story. In the watcher series Jess was 22 when she met Mason I feel as though we could have waited until Kaylan was at least 18/19 before she even found out about Aiden like they should have hid him away or he hide from her not allow her to see him. I found myself getting very frustrated yelling Caylen youre a child you are a child you’re 17 years old he is millennia years old(Lmaoooooooo)! this is so fncking stupid. The whole time I’m silently screaming “she’s a fncking child!” And then here comes stereo typical black sassy auntie Tara “Yall better say yo grace now! I don’t know how you were raised but we say I’m grateful we eat me you ain’t nobody perfect except for Gwad” ughhhhh

I think you guys will enjoy Malcolm though... it’s like a different author writing in the same series

JESS NEEDS MEDICATION AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD A THERAPIST! I wish S.J. West added that Jess went to therapy after her abuse as a child and her abandonment issues. Leah seems to be more mature and rational than Jess. I hated how she treated Remy when she first met him in book 3. Jess is very judgemental rude and annoying. And WTF is up with all the sex? I mean getting matches?Like dude I’m a self professed perv but this was overkill ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh

These books has become increasingly harder to complete. I look forward to finishing Jess’ portion of this series.

This is not constructive but I must say I absolutely hate how Hillary Huber voices Wraiph. OMG teenage girl Sweet Valley on crack... I’m grateful his story was voiced by Renee Raudman...
I also don’t like how Hillary voices Arik.

The ending was lacking. Could have done without the Novella at the end... meh

Did not like Bethany and Cole’s characters (maybe it’s the narrator’s portrayal)

This book seemed rushed. Maya is fickle, that's all I have to say without spoilers.

What would have made A Shiver of Light better?

If Hamilton gave a damn. It seems as though she just wrote the book to kill time. Judging from her blog I believe she lost interest in this series and this book proved it. Maybe she had a contractual obligation to write this book?

What could Laurell K. Hamilton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Give it a plot or not write it. She should have simply "not bothered" I wasted my time and credit.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator seemed confused as to who had what accent. Even Claudia Black with her accent gave Merry an American accent, Charlotte Hill had Merry sounding Irish or Scottish (hell or both!)

She made Ivy sound like a leprechaun or demi fey! She pronounced it as Evie once then pronounced it as Ivy all in the same sentence/paragraph!

What character would you cut from A Shiver of Light?

Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlotte Hill lol.

I could have done without the Hardcore Bromance (shy glances, crying and holding hands)...

Any additional comments?

I understand the need for explaining certain things but it just seemed repetitive. At first things were repeated from the other books reminding us of some of the characters backgrounds then it seemed as though Merry thoughts were being repeated several times. There was no story line just some brief situations. It's almost as though this book wasn't written by Laurell K. Hamilton. AND then she has the nerve to leave the possibility open for another book. The birth of the babies was a summary and It ended with a summary. Blah

Not bad, but I'm accustomed to Narrator Emily Shaffer's voice performing as teenage characters where as in this book the characters are in their mid to late twenties. The character of Mae (in my opinion) should sound a bit older and more mature.

With every book I listen to Anita gets more and more hypocritical! It's painful! I find myself yelling and my iPhone as if it's Anita "shut up!!!" I am interested in the story but I don't know if I can tolerate Anita! One minute she's like "she wouldn't feel anything if she kills someone or something the next minute she's vomiting and upset that one of the werewolves killed someone!!! Can you say HYPOCRITE!!! I know people are complicated and she's a fictional character but I'm listening to these Anita Blake books and Im getting tired of her and her personality! HYPOCRITE!!! LOL

Also you see some similarities in Asher and Reese (from the Merideth Gentry series)

I dunno I'm getting bored with this series and I'm only on book 8 of 19 :-/
