Historia
In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

I was always taught in school he was a murderer, but this book gives a much more nuanced look at the forces at play. I also noticed some familiar traits in behavior and feel I can learn from this and not make the same type of mistakes he did in the way he handled authority, orders, or how he shunned credit and continued to struggle his whole life instead of realizing his potential and leading more.

Read Eat That Frog Instead
Revisado: 12-20-22
I got recommended this book by somebody who obviously doesn’t read many books. It’s a good motivation piece, but nothing groundbreaking. I could sum it by saying, “Hey, isn’t the 80 - 20 rule neat? What if I applied the 80-20 rule to the 20% that’s left over? Sounds smart doesn’t it?”
IDK, not impressed.

Coming back to this book after failing at business
Revisado: 12-08-22
Do not listen to a word of this book and take it to heart if you will not do ALL of the things. I used this as an excuse to quit my stable job and go out on my own, I hired and scaled way too rapidly but I never put any systems or processes into place because that didn’t interest me.
This is not a buffet, it’s a recipe for disaster if you pick and choose which things you will do.
Now that I’ve been chewed up and spit out I’m rereading the book that started it all and my eyes are wide open to my blind spots. Now I know why it’s so important to be all about processes. I just thought I could hire talented people and have them document the processes but they procrastinated and avoided it because having expertise was their job security.
If you’re going base your business on this book make sure to review all of the materials and re-read it frequently. Otherwise you will just do the parts that are interesting to you and have a dysfunctional business.
I’m glad I came back to this book before giving up on my dream. I can turn it around if I actually put it all into practice.

Historia
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

Good book, good narration, don’t like the music at the end of the chapters
Revisado: 12-02-22
As the title says, it’s good. I find that Malcolm tends to infer into the data what he wants to see, but to a lesser extent than some books such as freakanomics.
I really like outliers as well, but again sometimes I think his conclusions are a stretch.
I recommend reading all of his books regardless of if you agree or like him. In fact, if you strongly disagree you should read it twice because he is right more than he is wrong, and if you disagree with everything he says perhaps you could stand to open your mind a bit.

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Revisado: 10-27-22
I’m just not a competitive person so it’s hard to wrap my brain around somebody so driven. The contents of this book were more motivational than procedural. I gave it 5 stars because it was a great story, it was well written if not a bit drawn out at times, but they did a good job of highlighting “proof anybody is capable” type stories to eliminate excuses.
Having read it, and owning it I can’t see giving the book a whole read through again. When you know the story you know it, so I would just grab your favorite story here or there or perhaps just re-do the final chapter because it’s incredibly motivating and it ties the entire story together into a well written motivational speech.
I can see all my competitive friends, and especially the top athletes I know getting fired up about this book. I respect David Goggins and recognize he is an amazing person, but I think I can like him and enjoy his story without being an active fan.
Anybody should read this book once because he’s a cool person with a great story. If you become a fan re-read it often.

Historia
In 2001 Mo Gawdat realized that despite his incredible success, he was desperately unhappy. A lifelong learner, he attacked the problem as an engineer would: examining all the provable facts and scrupulously applying logic. Eventually, his countless hours of research and science proved successful, and he discovered the equation for permanent happiness. Thirteen years later, Mo's algorithm would be put to the ultimate test. After the sudden death of his son, Ali, Mo and his family turned to his equation—and it saved them from despair.

Logical well thought out solution for better mental performance.
Revisado: 04-26-22
It is not uncommon for engineers and developers to believe in God and that he designed everything.
I am a very religious person yet I have a sensitivity for public discussion of God because as a leader in my community I am sensitive to the beliefs of atheists and other non-christian religions.
For a minute my hackles were raised that this book about programming your mind had quite a bit of discussion of God and him/her being a designer. I felt that perhaps the atheists or even more fundamental christian’s would be bothered by it.
I think he does a responsible job of navigating this and I honestly don’t know how he could have written this book without including his own views on God and the afterlife.
I like re-reading and re-listening to books and I would say that the first half of this book is a good one to visit often for a little mindset pick me up and the last half is more about resolution of the story line and how integrate what you learned in the first half.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Very gripping and believable piece of Historical Fiction
Revisado: 11-29-21
I was in the last few chapters when I realized this was a work of fiction. I can’t help but think these characters were an amalgamation of various real people he had met.
The characters were believable, nuanced, and I was transported to those places. Imagining all of the important people with tranquil lives who were uprooted and treated as commoners or second class citizens when the immigrated to the US is interesting.
Learning about the culture was eye opening. I used to fly kites when I was a child and I never knew about kite competitions or that it could be a competitive sport was interesting as well.
It is a great story of regret and redemption and really makes you think. I can’t rate this book highly enough.
