Terribly written, terrible AI narration
Revisado: 11-04-24
Wow where to start- the stories end abruptly with zero resolution or explanation, just creepy stuff with no finesse. The AI narration is terrible as well, mispronouncing stuff and not putting emphasis in the right place. Definitely not for little kids, way too graphic.

Delightfully fun and informative
Revisado: 10-26-22
Graham and Sam’s banter is so entertaining and hilarious. Pair that with their dramatic exaggerations and trivia of Scotland this made for a throughly enjoyable diversion.

Historia
The extraordinary life of history's first modern lesbian who inspired the television series Gentleman Jack. Anne Lister's journals were so shocking that the first person to crack their secret code hid them behind a fake panel in his ancestral home. Anne Lister was a Regency landowner, an intrepid world traveller...and an unabashed lover of other women. In this bold new biography, prizewinning author Angela Steidele uses the diaries to create a portrait of Anne Lister as we've never seen her before: a woman in some ways very much of her time and in others far ahead of it.

I read the reviews about this before I bought and saw that some listeners find the author critical and clinical. I did not share this experience. You can tell the author has some critiques of Anne Lister’s politics and opinions (rightly so, she supported prison torture and child labor) but overall it’s obvious that the author was enraptured by her as well. She balances the hard truths with the “fun stuff” well and gives a fully formed picture of the humanness of Anne Lister. She did not romanticize her or sugar coat her, and I appreciate this book for that! It doesn’t make me love Anne Lister less at all, just gives me a deeper view of who she was.

How is this the same person who wrote Harry Potter?
Revisado: 10-16-21
I really really wanted to like this story…. I grew up with Harry Potter and still love those books. This one started off with a semi-promising story line but it devolved onto something that felt like a nightmare you’d have after been cooped up and isolated in your house for too long… moralistic paper clips and old western spectacles crying about being lost by their owners… it was like listening to a schizophrenic’s subconscious stream of thought. I want my 6 hours back please.

Meeeeeh
Revisado: 04-05-20
The narrators voice really bugs me. She doesn’t have much inflection or different characters. Every sentence sounds the same. And whiny too. I’m trying to return this one.
