Historia
London is buzzing with the news that James Winters, the Duke of Wulverton—thought lost at sea a decade ago—survived in the harsh wilderness of the Yukon. Now he's been returned to his family, his responsibilities, and a nightmarish world of artifice and noise. He has three weeks to become a refined, elegant duke for the Queen . . . or doom the entire family to ruin and scandal.

WOW!

I've listened to hundreds of historical romances and they start to blend together. All the tropes, themes and characters start to become forgettable. Rarely do I find myself truly surprised or wowed at this point. This book was not a comfy familiar trope and I was wary but I am SO glad I listened. I love when I cannot forsee how an HEA will occur and the author delivers a beautiful one when I'm not expecting it. This was an awesome, steamy story and Stacy Reid is a genius.

LOVED it
Revisado: 05-13-23
I have read A LOT of HRs and I often get in a rut. I don't like trying newer authors and this book has been sitting in a "maybe" list. I'm so bummed I waited so long. I love that rush when in the first 30 minutes of a book you know you've started reading what will surely be one of your new favorites. The writing has wit in league with Tessa Dare and Lisa Kleypas. I loved the two main characters. A true cinnamon roll of a hero and a sweet and smart heroine who is vulnerable but not helpless. However, Aunt Eliza is who I loved the most! Narration seemed stilted at first so I sped up the speed and it helped.

Historia
Josephine Claremont hides her real name—and all the struggles she's endured—behind a beautiful stage name and debonair lifestyle. As the premier actress in London, she is welcomed in all society homes even though she doesn't belong in the haute ton. She is the queen of the demimonde and is determined to maintain that position—even if a dashing viscount is oddly intent on winning her heart.

Favorite from the series!
Revisado: 04-22-23
So far my favorite of the NA series. Sadie Bosque always brings a fresh take on classic tropes. Just the right amount of angst and believable character turn arounds. As always, narration was excellent. Another review stated book contains propaganda, I kindly disagree. All difficult topics included in book were handled sensitively and were very on par with the era this took place in.

Chef's Kiss

I have re-listened to this book (and series) multiple times now. MJW was absolutely perfect and can beautifully deliver scenes regardless if they are steamy, funny or action packed. Her character voices are distinguishable, and are consistent throughout the series.
Lisa Kleypas can really set up a great character story line. Each character is written in to the story very naturally and holds my interest. My least favorite character ends up becoming my favorite character as the series continues (I'm looking at you Pandora).
Her characters also do not follow a familiar trope. There isn't a typical eye rolling frigid lady that must be thawed out by the rake. They feel like real people with real back stories and the chemistry and interactions are entirely believable and understandable.
The story line doesn't feel like a layout of a familiar trope formula where characters and events are plugged in. This story sets up many of the characters for the other books but it doesn't feel like an obligatory introduction book that is so caught up in setting up the series it lacks substance in it's own story. It certainly stands alone beautifully, but I became voracious for more.
I wish this had not been my introduction back into regency romance since my teens because while I enjoy other authors, LK somehow can always make me laugh, cry, rage, clutch my pearls and fan myself. I have been chasing this kind of writing for while and cannot find another authors that delivers stories with so many of my favorite elements seamlessly woven into a novel. The scenes can be HOT but this isn't an erotic novel. There is great humor but it isn't a comedy. It is a regency romance but there are so many other non-romantic relationships that captivate me in this story as well.

Pleasantly surprised
Revisado: 05-14-18
Did not expect to find this book comforting and entertaining. Also did not expect one of my lasting impressions of James Comey was that he is humorous. Provided clarity and insight to the election. Appreciated the continued theme of optimism. Was pretty sure I would buy this and regret purchasing after chapter 1 due to boredom. Now hoping for a second book describing how he continued championing for integrity, thoughtfulness, and humility in the government. 10/10 would elect James (or Patrice).
