Historia
Born under a hunter's moon, abandoned as a child, I was raised to be a powerful sorceress - okay, a mediocre sorceress. All right, I'm good at glamour and can make things sparkle, if my spells don't backfire. It was foretold long ago that I was a child of prophecy that would unite the fae and humans of Candor. The only problem, no one told me, and now the king wants me dead. For I am Eden, one of the adoptive daughters of Lady Eville, and I have to attend the royal masquerade ball - not to win a prince, but to avenge my parents. Even if it means pretending to be a fairy godmother....

Then a fire engulfs life as she knew it, and Moonbeam is forced outside The Fence into a world she does not recognize.

Good story, but uses a lot of repetitive wording
Revisado: 06-15-23
I hated the use of "whispers the voice in the back of my head." I kept wondering if the main character had schizophrenia because she hears this voice so often. The author could have given the intuition of the main character a better description. If you can get past the annoyance of hearing that phrase over and over again, it's a good book.

Historia
Three-quarters of Americans believe that a group of unelected government and military officials secretly manipulate or direct national policy in the United States. This sweeping exploration examines the CIA and FBI scandals of the past 50 years - from the Church Committee's exposure of Cold War abuses, to Abscam, to false intelligence about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, to NSA mass surveillance revealed by Edward Snowden. It then investigates the claims and counterclaims of the Trump era, and the relentless spread of conspiracy theories online and on-air.

Pure Propaganda
Revisado: 05-21-20
This book is pure left/FBI/CIA, anti-Trump propaganda. It left out so much of the real story and only left the bits in that make the FBI and CIA look like there's no possible way they have any political bias since all of the reforms of the Church Committee and Carter's presidency. It's just amazing how a book can jump on the mainstream media bandwagon to unfairly slander Donald Trump and then somehow glorify a totally incompetent president like Jimmy Carter. Like do people really believe this BS? If I could give it zero stars I would. I couldn't even finish the book.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

Good book, but kinda slow
Revisado: 08-23-18
I loved the first book, A Discovery of Witches, but I struggled to get through this book. There was just too much history and not enough of getting to the mysteries the author had set up in the first book. I also didn't love the ending. There was nothing to hook me into listening to the next book. I think the author could have cut this one down by a lot, but I get that she wanted to weave Diana into the history of the period. Overall, I did enjoy the book, but it was just way too long, and I wish she had spent more time on the details of her fictional plot and characters instead of the historical people and stories.

Genius solutions for people who can't clean
Revisado: 10-24-17
I really loved this book and totally related to the author. I read THE MAGIG OF TIDYING and, although I gleaned some wisdom on how to organize drawers, it just wasn't practical advice for me, an American mother of 4 small children. This book has practical solutions that aren't overwhelming and helps you get started on creating new habits to develop home management skills. I've always been a messy person and, although a minimalist at heart, I've never had it in me to create good housekeeping habits. This book gives me a lot of hope for myself. Her ideas on decluttering and laundry are genius. I just wish she provided more step by step instructions on how to manage everything in a home like vacuuming and deeper cleaning. She gives solutions, but it isn't very specific. This book is also good to read if you yourself are organized but live with messy people. I wish my mom had known some of these strategies to help me when I was younger.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Fantastic book, just lots of swearing
Revisado: 07-31-17
I loved this book. Atheist liberals may balk at some of the conclusions made, but Christian conservatives will say, "Amen," to everything. This book is fascinating at worst with it's eye witness view into the life of an underpriviledged child seeking self reliance against all odds. The only criticism I have is that the language is very explicit. I understand why some of it was necessary, but a lot of it could have been left out.

With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

Interesting Story
Revisado: 06-13-17
I was a little hesitant to read this book because I've heard the Netflix series is rated MA. I was expecting detailed accounts of sexual assault and the like, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this book interesting, well-written, and even uplifting. I wish it didn't have so many F-words, but I realize you probably couldn't write a book about prison without them, so I tolerated it. I also wish there had been some type of epilogue at the end. I got so wrapped up in Piper's story that I wanted to know how it was to be back on the outside and what she and Larry ended up doing. Ah, I guess it just means she needs a sequel - or a Netflix series.

Cute story and fun read
Revisado: 06-03-17
This would be a fun read for any kid (or one at heart) who is interested in a little historical fiction. The performance was great as all of Jenna Lamia's are. It was a little slow the first two-thirds, but, although somewhat predictable, I really enjoyed how it all came together near the end.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Somewhat anti-Christian, but a fun read
Revisado: 08-25-16
This is a really fun listen. The narrator didn't bug me very much which is pretty amazing for me. Although her accents were off a bit, her voice sounded age appropriate for each character.
The actual book was just fun too. It had several F words, but no sex scenes (which I appreciated). The F words were used appropriately and not too much. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because there is a very anti-Christian feel to the book in some parts. I couldn't figure out what the author's position on Christianity was though. One of the main characters does have a bit of a "come to Jesus" moment, and the Christian antagonist gets a form of redemption in the end, but overall I felt like it made Christians look like hypocritical weirdos which bothered me a bit.
