Historia
It’s been twenty years since Detective Chelsey Calhoun’s sister vanished when they were teenagers, and ever since she’s been searching: for signs, for closure, for other missing girls. But happy endings are rare in Chelsey’s line of work. Then a glimmer: local teenager Ellie Black, who disappeared without a trace two years earlier, has been found alive in the woods of Washington State. But something is not right with Ellie. She won’t say where she’s been, or who she’s protecting, and it’s up to Chelsey to find the answers.

Excellent portrayal of mind control
Revisado: 12-30-24
I grew up in a cult. The writer did a superb job of capturing the mindset. I would say, most people who have not experienced this level of manipulation cannot fathom. Thank you to this writer for doing such a job.
Story was well done.

Historia
Lark Smith has always had a plan for her life: find a fantastic guy, create a marriage as blissful as her parents’, pop out a couple of kids, and build a rewarding career as an oncologist. Things aren’t going so well. For one, the guy didn’t work out. Theoretically, she’d love to find someone else, but it hasn’t happened. Two, she’s just been transferred out of Oncology for being too emotional. (Is it her fault she’s a weeper?) Three, her parents just split up. Deviating from the plan was … well, not in the plan. A potential solution comes from the foul-tempered surgeon Lorenzo Santini.

Volume on audio way too low
Revisado: 06-23-24
Story was ok. Narrators voice was too bass and even with the volume maxed, I missed a lot and had to replay. Unfortunate, as I might have bought the sequels.

Hard to understand Scottish accent and lots of profanity
Revisado: 03-08-23
I’m from the USA. I did struggle a lot with understanding the heavy Scottish accent. I’m not sure if it is normal in that country for profanity to be the main words in every sentence. I found it very distracting.
There were good things in the story.
But I had a hard time with the narrator as well, as the volume went up and down; too loud and then not loud enough.
I will not be pursuing any more of the books from this writer for the above stated reasons.

I was expecting a historical novel not a harlequin romance
Revisado: 05-30-22
Awkward narrative. Overexplaining, “she said”, “she felt”, “she thought”, etc., Truly had the feel of a dime store cheesy romance. I do not recommend

Way too much “explaining “
Revisado: 04-02-21
I’m not sure why all of the over explaining and repetition was not edited out of this book. It was unfortunate because I liked the characters. I would have stopped listening except for that one saving grace. So, I tolerated all of the “she thought”, “she felt”, “because” etc. I actually set the speed at 1.3 and that helped get past all the excessive verbiage. I will avoid this author in the future

The whispery voice of narrator
Revisado: 02-18-21
A voice that whispers would be good for a children’s bedtime book. I had a hard time staying awake, had the volume on maximum and still had to strain to hear. The story was okay.
