Reads like a text book
Revisado: 11-10-04
A lot of really interesting history. It is filled with many facts, several nice anecdotes, and provides a good backdrop of what is going on around the late 1920s. Repeats too many ideas and I found the Author notes distracting. This book could be improved with an abridged version.

Historia
In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

A great
Revisado: 08-13-04
If you are down on yourself, this book may change your perspective. I especially like the way the various episodes are broken up and intermingled with each other. Experience shows that books narrated by the author are usually a good bet, and this audiobook is no exception. Ron McLarty puts all of himself into the rendition. A great story and Highly recommended.

Scott Brick delivers a great narration again.
Revisado: 04-02-04
I tend to like books read by Scott Brick and this delivery kept me up late nights listening until completed. The book was fast paced and had enough twists to keep it interesting. Predictable in some spots, unbelievable in others yet ends with enough impact on the reader to want more. Recommended

Many twists and turns, new ideas and suspense. Odd Thomas is an interesting character, with odd powers. David Aaron Baker has a great voice and narrates with feeling. He portrays the main character so you see him through your own eyes. Highly recommended.

Another Fantastic book presented by Audible
Revisado: 01-19-04
Historical content appears accurate: especially the use/inclusion of Pliny. Geologically interesting: liked the inclusion of scientific text. Fast moving with a great storyline and fascinating plot. As with most of my favourite audible books, I really liked the narrators presentation.

Revisado: 12-30-03
Amazing how the authors introduce twists while maintaining consistency not only with the 1st book but with the original Dune series. I anticipate the third book to see how they tie it all together. Like with all good audio books, the narrator does a great rendition of the various characters.

Magnificent classic, brilliantly read
Revisado: 10-27-03
The principles related in this book written over half a century ago apply today as they did back when it was written. The tremendous growth of high tech media coupled by improved communications influence our thoughts and ideas more that was possible in the middle of the 20th century. Everything I expected from an Ayn Rand book.

Three books in one
Revisado: 10-07-03
Entertaining as well as Eye opening. This book exposes three growing areas of concern in today's society, namely marijuanna, illegal employer / migrant worker relations, and pornography. It provides a fair historical depiction of both sides of the argument, as well as definite opinions on each subject. It appears that the narrator, in an attempt to remain unbiased, can be at times be a bit bland about the subject and at other times show sympathy where one might not expect it. A great listen, and very educational.

Los Angeles, 1948: Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins is a black war veteran just fired from his job. Now he's drinking in a friend's bar, wondering how he'll meet his mortgage. That's when DeWitt Albright, a quietly vicious white man, walks in, and offers Easy good money if he'll just do a little job for him: find Miss Daphne Monet, a blonde beauty known to frequent black jazz clubs. It seems simple enough, but Easy soon discovers that Albright isn't the only one looking for the lovely Miss Monet.

Very Nostalgic feeling
Revisado: 08-08-03
Gives a somewhat sordid view of post war 1948 Los Angeles and the bigotry embedded into the American phsyche. The narrator (Simms) provides a good rendition behind the thinking of an highly intelligent African American WWII vet struggling to strive in a white mans world after falling into a hornets nest of greed and deception. Well placed shocking violence and great twists in the plot. I also recommend seeing the 1995 movie starring Denzil Washington that follows the book closely. The book leaves you pondering the characters well after having listened to it.
