Timothy and Jonah, wealthy entrepreneurs with a spoiled son, hide sins from their past—one involving a death on a cruise, the other a crime in Bali. Nathan and Samantha, the hot ex-nanny turned trophy wife, grapple with infertility and a shocking paternity secret. Bartosz and Angelika (he’s a chef, she’s a former sex worker) carry debts to the other couples they don’t even realize they owe. Over fourteen days, the couples bond—but their pasts are too deeply intertwined to stay hidden. The sly concierge, Putu, knows more than he lets on.

An excellent “Who done it.” Passion, sex, murder. Stayed glued to my IPhone. Tough to stop listening. I usually don’t order audibles with multi narrators. Every voice was easy to listen to.

Historia
For the lucky among us, life is what you make of it, but for Dixie Wheeler, the theme music for her story was chosen by another long ago, on the day her father butchered her mother and brothers and then slashed a knife across his own throat. Only one-year-old Dixie was left alive, infamously known as Baby Blue for the song left playing in the aftermath of the slaughter. Twenty-five years later, Dixie is still desperate for a connection to the family she can’t remember, so when her childhood home goes up for sale, Dixie sets aside all reason and moves in.

Historia
From Eliza Clark, the author of the brilliant novels Boy Parts and Penance and one of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists, comes a fierce, visionary and darkly comic story collection. A woman welcomes a parasite into her body. A teenager longs for perfect skin. A scientist tends to fragile alien flora. A young man takes the night into his own hands. Unsettling, revelatory, and laced with her signature dark humor, Eliza Clark’s debut short story collection plumbs the depths of that most basic human feeling: hunger.

Eliza Clark’s enchanting narrations.
Revisado: 02-20-25
Pros.
Eliza Clark is a fantastic narrator. After listening to Boy Parts four times, I was drawn in by her narration skills. I would have liked Eliza to do all the narrations, but this audible contained other good narrators. I enjoyed both the story and narration.
“Build a Body Like Mine.” Overall 5/5. Good short story. Fun ending.
I didn’t think much of the story “She’s Always Hungry,” but the performance of the narrators was good. Overall 3/5.
I really enjoyed the episode “Shake Well.” Eliza’s performance was outstanding as usual. That chapter could be stretched into an entire book for young adults. Overall 5/5.
Company Man is a good story. Narrated by Eliza, it hit all the right chords. Overall 5/5.
The Shadow over Little Chitaly. A very creative chapter. Anyone can identify with this chapter, overall 4/5,
Overall I do recommend this book for Eliza Clark fans. It is a nice collection of short stories. A fun listen overall.
About me. Not her target audience, I will be 80 in May, and married 57 years. As a retired person, I order a lot of Audible books, with well over a hundred reviews. Eliza Clark’s books and narration hits the sweet spot. Unconventional and well narrated.

Though the story is a little over top, it’s a very relatable story. I think the narration is outstanding, especially by the mother who is the main narrator. I listened to it twice.

Consistent with the Rotherham court cases.
Revisado: 12-03-24
I have listened to several books involving Pakistani gangs sexually brutalizing young English girls. My first was Violated, by Sarah Wilson. In that well publicized criminal trial, with convictions, the disgusting Pakistani gangs were exposed, with many sent to jail. They consider English girls nothing more than white trash to be groomed, used and sold. None were kidnapped and they lived at home with a parent.
I would recommend googling Rotherham criminal trials, reading the news articles, and then ordering both books I mentioned.

Clay Collins and her friends have always turned up their noses at me. The witch with her beautiful skin, clean shoes, and rich parents who torments me daily and thinks I won't fight back. At least not until I get her alone and find out she's hiding so much more than just what's underneath those pretty clothes.

I think the intended audience are young gay females.
The book quickly became engaging. It was well written. The narrators made it easy to listen too. As a result, I listened to the entire book. Found it enjoyable.

Story.
Mother provided nice comic relief near the end of the story.
With so many of these stories, a single man looks for a weak woman with a young daughter. The weak mother is financially dependent on the man and looks the other way.
Although the stepfather is a pedophile, who abused the young daughter. Oddly though, there isn’t that much graphic sex in the story. It stands on its own as a strong story.
