Historia
When Christa Brown first spoke out about the sexual abuse she endured in her Texas childhood church, she never imagined it would expose the ethical chasm at the core of the Southern Baptist Convention: male religious leaders so focused on institutional protection that they sacrifice the safety of children. A book about speaking out and speaking up, Baptistland weaves together Christa’s revealing story of hope amid Southern patriarchy and religious fundamentalism.

My heart ached with every page
Revisado: 09-08-24
Christa Brown is a remarkable writer. She’s brilliant, resilient, & courageous. As a devout follower of Jesus, I want to say how sorry I am. The sexual predation of the SBC pastor was enraging. The countless hurtful words (emotional & verbal abuse) coming from Christa’s mother & the unfathomable bullying & hate from Judy & eventually Rita, just kept breaking my heart for Christa over & over. I kept thinking, “how much more can she take?” It’s rare that I can’t put a book down. I pray that the love, kindness, goodness, mercy, & peace of God becomes experiential & healing to every fiber of Christa’s being. She’s clearly a very dear & precious soul with great depth & on a necessary mission. God speed.

Heartbreakingly wonderful.
Revisado: 10-31-23
I’m so sad that he didn’t live longer to enjoy sobriety & more years of a relationship with a merciful living Lord Jesus. Such a painful story to listen to. He’s brilliant, of course funny, & such an innocent little boy inside. He’s found complete peace now in heaven & will never be without the unconditional love of the One…the only One…who saves, heals, & delivers.

I’m 61 & absolutely love Kate’s children’s literature. Such a rich and redemptive story! So much depth in the characters, developed in such a short story. She’s brilliant!

The world knows Naomi Judd as one of the most successful and best-loved country music stars ever. What the world hasn't known - until now - is that after her 2010 and 2011 North American tour with Wynonna, Naomi fell into a debilitating and terrifying depression that seemingly came out of nowhere. Just months after the successful tour ended, Naomi truly believed she had every reason to end her life.

The very best audio book!
Revisado: 05-06-22
I have a new hero. I listened shortly after Naomi’s suicide. I’m so sad that after such a courageous story of healing, this amazingly talented, extremely empathic woman who so inspired, cared for, and encouraged others eventually faced the demon of depression once more to the point that she did succumb to it and take her own life. I’m so very sad for her family. I’m so grateful that as a believer in Jesus Christ, this precious & thoughtful woman is now out of pain forever and completely whole & free.
